When is the best time of the year to acquire a corn snake hatchling?

I know naturally, eggs usually hatch in July and there are late August batch too. When is the best time to get a hatchling? Is there a standard for weight? Or like how old? (right after hatching? 2~3 months later?)

Eggs hatch almost year 'round. And even when eggs are not hatchling, people are keeping babies longer to establish them, or holding them back to see how they develop and then offering them for sale, or cutting back current projects to make room for future projects. There are hatchlings on up available any time of the year. We are entering peak hatching season right now.

If it's your first snake, I'd suggest one over 20 grams and already on fuzzies. They are much less fragile at that size than tiny worms.

^^ What Chip said ^^

I think there was someone here that had Jan or Feb hatchlings, they got a really early jump on the yr compared to most.

If you really want a new hatchling try to make sure the one you get has had at least 3-4 meals already and buy from a breeder and not a petshop.

Cool~ I am planning to get one around October (after my move to California in September). It's my first corn snake, so I just want to make sure I have everything!

You're wise to check everything out before you get your first snake. Nancy's right, you can find babies year round. But Chip is right on in advising one past the just-hatched stage for a first snake. Whatever you decide, beware: it's really hard to have just one!

I am planning to get a juvenile / yearling, but I also need to see what's available locally first (I prefer to see the snake than to just click yes to an online shop). Hopefully, the unsold May/June hatchling will be juvenile by September.

Oh, AMEN! They are like tattoos, totally addicting! Forget meth and crack, I think if drug addicts got a corn fix instead of a drug fix they would get a better high!
