The one that I know that I asked about -- and several after me have asked, as well (so if you wish to search on it, I know that it's there!) -- is the "numbering" code...I had my suspicions on it by context, but just for confirmation's sake...
0.1 = 1 female
1.0 = 1 male
0.0.1 = 1 unknown sex
Once I knew that my contextual skills (oh, yes, I teach early reading!) were in check, I figured that I'd just get the rest as I went along...and if I didn't, I made it up to fit my needs, and that worked for me, as well.
(Or, just quote that part of the person's response & reply with a question involving the slangy-bit...usually works... )

That would make for a wonderful sticky somewhere for future reference..."Know Your Forum Abbreviations"...then everyone can sound like a pro. (Or, like my students who just use polysyllabic word just to hear themselves say them & they're totally out of context...kudos to them for trying, but then I help them figure out how they could use the word in regular conversation & still sound just as smart... )

great list, but you missed two of the biggies:
Het=heterozygous(a genetic state in which the snake contains one wild type gene and one recessive gene{looks normal})
Homo=homozygous(a genetic state in which a snake conatains 2 recessive genes{displays the 'morph'})
And just to confuse you, an "RTB" is also a "BCC" which is a boa constrictor constrictor. And "CH" is captive hatched, also synonomous with "CF" or captive farmed where wild eggs are collected and hatched in captivity.

For the most part, look at the pictures to understand the snake abbreviations, and use contextual "assumptions" to understand the other abbreviations. If you still don't get it...ask. Someone will be happy to tell you what the heck we're talking about.
Other than that...once you understand all of the slang and abbreviations, you need to swear a blood oath of secrecy to avoid our top-secret research from leaking to the public. If you don't, we might have to take you out...

Looks like my 10wk old candycane is not shedding, he ate 2 days later, (so that was 9 days w/out food) UGH I had to take him out in the yard where there was no screaming kids & it was nice/cool/dark & quiet. He ate a f/t/p!! SO happy! I will be making that hunt you told me about. The tupperware one good for when he starts to shed...TA, V~

Well, some snakes take a little longer to shed than others. But the rule of thumb is after the blue eye phase, expect anywhere from 2-5 days. If you notice that the skin on your snake is looking really saggy or crinkly for lack of a better term and there's no hint of any shedding started, I would definately start soaking the snake in very low lukewarm water for 15-30 minutes. I usually put any problem shedders into a container with a pop on lid with air holes and only enough water in the container that is slightly higher than the girth of the snake and then close the lid so the snake is kind of forced to at least sit in the water or gain some much needed humidity. I use close-lidded containers as most snakes will quickly jump out of the water. But make sure the water is not cold and definitely not hot. Cooler water is much less stressful on a snake than hot water but you don't want it frigid cold either. I only recommend this method when using a wet hide hasn't produced results and the skin of the snake is either saggy looking (when you know it's due for a shed) or parts of a shed are sticking, especially on the tail end.
As far as our discussions about wet hides, you can make one out of most anything. I used some tupperware/glad type containers for my larger snakes while used/cleaned butter containers do the trick for the smaller snakes. You basically want something you can easily open to put moist paper towels in and yet allow the snake enough room to feel cozy. Remember to cut a large enough hole in the container for the snake to go in and out of I usually place my wet hides on the hot side of the tank to build up humidity, but this also dries out the moist towels within a day, so it's imperative that you remoisten the paper towels every day or when they feel dry. Don't judge the moisture of the towels based on the droplets of water on the top of the container either, this is a false positive. And don't make the towels sopping wet either, you want the snake to gain moisture through humidity, not develop the dreaded blister rash that they sometimes can get from excessive wetness.
