Well... if I may toss in my two cents...

Science is incapable of answering questions that precede the big bang... nor can science explain why life began.
Many people(millions) will say they experienced -some- "paranormal" event- let us say 99.999% of them are idiots... all it takes is for one person to be right to flush a scientific statement down the toilet.

The concept of believing what you can see and touch is also a tad problematic... do you still believe the earth is flat? can you feel it is round?
How about oxygen? can you see it?

Like it or not, allot of things are beyond our senses- our perception is limited and therefore does not and cannot encompass everything that is out there.

It is a medical fact that emotion affects the immune system, it is a fact that feelings are chemical based... it is a fact that we are run by electricity through our nerve system- is it so unlikely that chemicals and electric fields created by human beings can create halos? is it unlikely that some people will have sensitive enough receptors to pick up on such things? making them seem telepathic?

I don't believe in hell... I think too highly of God to believe that the sole purpose of creation is for Him/Her/Multitude keep score and punish/reward us when we die...
If anyone has read "Journey of Souls" by Dr. Newton, he'll have a better grasp on my own beliefs.

Setting beliefs aside though... I think this argument is redundant... truth, is overrated.
If Faith fuels you with hope and puts a smile on your face- terrific!
If you're right- than you're right... once you'll be dead it won't matter if you were right or wrong.
If you're wrong- once you'll be dead, it won't matter if you were right or wrong!

Time shall pass, and we will all grow older and eventually pass on- do whatever makes you feel good.
I personally feel that Faith is a wonderful thing, regardless of form, religion or ritual- as long as you do not seek to harm others of course.

I'm confused about this "soul" thing. I've read that the soul is immortal. But what does that mean exactly?

If the soul is immortal, then how many of them are there "out there"? Enough to cover all the soul carrying beings in the universe that ever WILL be living at the same time? Does that mean that there is a fixed number of immortal souls already created? Or are they created as needed and THEN become immortal? But if that is the case, what happens if the number of bodies for souls drops below the number of souls that was created?

So is a soul inhabiting a living body a good thing or a bad thing as far as the soul is concerned? Do souls WANT to inhabit a body? If so, then are the ones without bodies unhappy about that situation? Or perhaps being a soul outside of a body is really preferable, but then what would make a soul choose to then inhabit a body? Perhaps to a soul, inhabiting a body is much like riding a roller coaster at the fair. :shrugs:

Oh yeah, back to this issue of God. I've read that God is omnipotent. Meaning God can do ANYTHING, right? Well, can God create a rock that is so heavy that not even God can lift it?

See what I mean about a definition of "God"? Obviously the definition of "omnipotent" can't really apply....

The question about whether souls want bodies or not depends on what you think souls exist for. That's a whole 'nother layer of onion!

Not all of us subscribe to the omnipotent theory of Deity, so I just ignore that one!
 
This is an odd thread.
Help me out, am I thinking correctly? I don't think that time had to be "created". Time would occur as a result of the existence of the three physical dimensions. For something to be created in even one dimension there also had to be a situation in which it was not created. Can these two situations occur simultaneously?

You can't define God with concepts limited to human perception... that's the whole point...
Regardless, if you really care about such things- I encourage you to read "Journey of Souls"- it was composed by a very down to earth psychologist.

Dear crazy:

I did disprove your mathematical "proof" by showing that a simple substitution of theism (belief in a deity or some sort) in the place of a-theism (anti-belief in a deity) produces the same result, meaning the "proof" is flawed.

And actually, time is NOT moving. It is simply our perception of it. Quantum theory says that time is rather like a sliced loaf of bread, infinitely long. This exact "now" is one slice. My perception happens to only travel in one direction on the loaf, but that doesn't mean the other slices don't exist. All time exists at the *same* time so by quantum theory, we actually live forever because those "nows" keep happening. This in turn could be an interesting example of explanations for deja vu where you actually affect something. For example, back in highschool a friend bought a letter opener and goblet and brought the un-opened box to school. She opened it at lunch time and right on the top of the packaging peanuts was the letter opener and next to it was the goblet. There was still a good 5 or 6 inches of packaging peanuts in the box. I got a strong sense of deja vu, turned to her and said "Where's the second letter opener?" and she insisted she had bought only one. She went to go chuck the box out and I convinced her to humor me and once she dug all the packaging out, there along the side, flush to the bottom, was a second little letter opener. The feeling of Deja Vu probably lasted a good 5 minutes and could be explained as my perception jumping forward a few "slices" and then back, which means my perception traveled back again so I have now disproven your thing about time as well.
