Mommy Snakes: Lavblood Lily and Bloodred Buzztail

Nanci

Alien Lover
I took the girls out for their daily maternity exercise this morning. Neither has gone blue yet, although are VERY hungry!

Here's Lily, who should be first to go:

Lily likes to do some swimming, too. She is very good at getting out of the water garden.

Buzztail (aka Ballentine- her owner Katie's name for her!!) is more interested in burrowing and had to be encouraged to get moving.

Buzztail is a very sweet snake, perfectly handleable, unless food is involved! When I had her up here last season, she merely rattled incessantly while in her feeding bin. This year, hopefully gravid, she strikes the sides and even the hook I use to remove her from her feeding bin to put her back in her viv! She's hungry!!

Last pic- a view of Fort Tort, with Lily in the foreground. I was a little worried about the angry mockingbird pair nearby (the male is up in the top of the oak on the left) but they were more concerned about the crows who had come in for a drink and a bath.

Thanks for looking!

Which one, Chad?? (I guess both are going to have bloodred babies, though!)

Well, I bet I know someone who could hook you up!! But to me, the males look totally different. A lot pinker/peachier.

Oh, thank you for the compliment! When I bought Lily I'd wanted a lavblood since the second I saw one. That purple snake of Rich's. But they were WAY out of my price range. Rich mentioned something about having a sale, and I told him my dream snake was that purple snake, and he told me that he was photographing ALL the 2007 babies and to watch his site. So I checked it a thousand times a day and was the first to discover the half price sale, and there were a _ton_ of lavblood males and females pictured. I narrowed it down to a female (yay, add 25% for lone female!!) and then narrowed it down to my several favorites, and sent an emergency message to Roy Munson for help in choosing, because I knew he would know which baby would turn into the adult look I wanted. (The babies had several distinctly different styles!) So we looked and looked and narrowed it down to Lily! And she is, in my opinion, gorgeous. Dean couldn't have chosen better. I have since bought a snake sight unseen from Rich, but I don't think I could have done it back then, with my then most expensive snake purchase ever...Baby pic, credit Rich Z:

Nanci, both the females are gorgeous but I ADORE Lily!! Lily is everything a lavblood should be, and more!
Dean really can pick good looking snakes, I haveta say.
I have one that I bought from him as an adult....she is not the most exotic thing on the planet, but she is clearly one of the most beautiful.

Well, when Lily is done with her current assignment, hoefully I will be able to breed some lavbloods just as pretty! I just have to wait for Draco (2009 Colorado Corns lavblood) to grow up. Maybe next year I will breed her to Jasper (LBR hypoblood ph lav). Jasper is dying to reproduce...

LOL Nanci, I'm cracking up picturing Lilly doing her "maternity exercises". :crazy02:

She sure has come a long way!!
