Fresh-Shed Fred! 2008 Colorado Corns M Rosy Blood

Fred was very licky! I took him outside in his feeding bin for some pics. The sun was already down or I'd have had to post a Sunglsses Alert!!

Most importantly, Fred shed both spectacles without a problem! He had a retained spectacle last winter, and you _never_ want to go through that, trust me...Thanks to that experience, I now faithfully, obsessively check everyone's shed for spectacles.

A Rosy blood is a keys corn that has all the markers of bloodred and that is why Don (SMR) named them that many years ago. The funny thing about them when bred to a bloodred all babies come out as bloodreds.

That's interesting so what happens when you breed two together? Is this a natuarlly ocurring morph or is it made from combining Rosies and Bloodreds? Sorry for all the questions, I'm not familiar with them at all.

They came from 2-3 wild caught Rosy's from the keys (I think it was Big Pine) and some of the F2's came out as Rosy Bloods.

So, then they are homo bloodred, right? Why would it be funny? :shrugs: I think I miss something....

Because they were never crossed with mainland bloodreds, (to get the bloodred gene into them) but still have bloodred offspring???

The original snakes were wild caught. When bred together, some of the F2s were Rosy Bloods. This occured several generations ago.

I'm still not sure why 'the funny thing is funny'; because a mutation occured in two separate populations but they are compatibel? That would be a concidence indeed. Or, could it be that someone's bloodred corn escaped on the Key where the Rosy Bloods originate?
