What kind of snake is this?

Hah! Try feeding live rabbits to burmese pythons sometime. Listening to rabbits screaming got to me REAL quick!

Oof, been there with an amethystine python...she survived a fire that claimed a lot of animals in the building, but didn't want anything except live rabbits for a year or so afterward. It was horrific. *Shudder*

Seriously, I love constrictors. I've kept watersnakes, hognoses, lizards (that eat out of the shaker), garters, ringnecks, and greybanded kings that were stubborn. They bored me to death. Constrictors are entertaining I've always been fascinated with them. There is an entertainment value with constrictors that some don't like or just don't have time to enjoy. I understand that. But for me to maintain 200 plus snakes on top of my factory job there has got to be some entertainment. One of the coolest feeds was when I had a 5ft gray rat in a tall enclosure. Threw in a wild caught bird and he snatched out of the air in mid-flight. That was very cool for the kids and I.

You are straining at a gnat on this one. The pic is of a king snake and the subject matter is about king snakes. One of the reasons they are called king snakes is because of immunity to venom and their amazing ability of viper control. I get a lot of entertainment out of watching snakes "do what they do" via constrict cute bunnies, pretty birds, and especially chimpmunks that is hilarious. But any way if my black king was immune to cobra venom I would feed one in a heatbeat with a bowl of popcorn and a video camera.
Actually I am well aware of king snakes and what they do, don't really care what one feeds thier animals. Never have. But when one writes on here with the sole purpose of stirring things up is different. Especially when the topic was "what kind of snake is this?" and not "what things can I feed it?" So I guess I will stop here as to not get infractions because of a gnat. Have a good day and please stay away from them blue lights and zapping sounds.

In no way is a chipmunk being strangled to death "hilarious". These animals are not put here for your amusement. They are here to be prey items for snakes but that doesnt mean you should take some sick enjoyment out of watching them do it. Do you also think watching a hawk tear a snake to pieces is "hilarious"? That is a two sided coin.

If you feed live prey just for "amusement" then you shouldnt own snakes because you are putting the snake at risk for a nasty bite. Especially from a rodent.
And you shouldnt take pleasure in the death of an animal even if it is to feed yours. Just view it as a necessity, not a comedy show.

P.S. king snakes are not completely immune to venom. If they are bitten enough they will die.

You caught a wild bird and released it in a cage with a snake for kicks? And you showed it to your kids? Great parenting, great example of pet ownership, I hope you treated it for parasites. What other sick habits do you have? Are you going to pop a baby in with one of your snakes next? Or will you just keep it at defensless animals that we sane people enjoy?

The only beings on the planet capable of cruelty and inhumanity are humans.

Great example of Christianity too I guess.....

Have you watched a wild cought rat snake on a chipmunk? What I have noticed is that the snake reacts differently to certain kinds of prey. For instance, when I throw in a stunned rat they constrict but with less violence. Throw in a fully wild cought chipmunk, and the force and speed of the strike and the rap up is extraordinary. Havn't seen a hawk on a snake but I used to live in Slocomb AL. I watched first hand an alligator attack a cottonmouth now that was cool. Also on dicovery channel it show a hawk take a box turtle up about 100ft up the side of mountain and drop it as to crack the shell and access the meat, I thought that was very interesting.

Wow, than Christianity has a weird way of thinking about what children should see. Especially with the message that it is also entertaining.

And you really need to research that, don't you? Why?

You all accuse Lav of trolling, but who is inciting things? If you don't agree, don't post. No one is getting their mind changed by what someone else says on the internet.

Bringing religion into an argument is obviously trying to start something. Let's all be adults.

The food chain is a necessary part of life, and of owning canivorous animals. But to enjoy the suffering of the animals lower on the food chain is just disgusting. Rats are intelligent animals that many people hold dear as pets, so to enjoy feeding a rat to a snake, is considerabley like throwing a cat or puppy to a snake and enjoying watching it be strangled and eaten. Maybe we feel less remorse in feeding mice, because mice measurabley less intelligent, but none the less its still a living thing capable of fear, and pain. Just because humans have domain over animals doesn't mean they're here for our enjoyment in life or death struggles. The kind of people who enjoy seeing this kind of stuff are no different than the kind of people who enjoy dog/cock/horse fights. Yes, some cultures still impose horsefighting, and enjoy it. As Americans we try to treat our animals humanely. I find any culture, be it Americans with dog fighting, Asians with horsefighting, or the Spanish with bullfighting, that finds pleasure in such a violent, sickening, inhumane act, to be a very deranged one. Even most cultures that eat monkeys and other animals we wouldn't consider eating, usually still have them as pets, and treat them with love and respect. I'm just appauled by anyone who enjoys an animals suffering. Most socio/psychopathic killers start off with animal torture and abuse, (amongsty other traits). Ponder that fact. Like others have noted, I think Lavender is mostly trying to cause waves here more than anything. Well good job Lavender, you've turned a young mans post about a snake he found into a post about you. I think you've succeeded in your plight for attention.

I know, sorry for that, but it was something that came to my mind since Lav used to spread the word about Christianity all the time.

A good discussion, be it irl or online can change someones mind I think. But indeed, not in this case.

Seems to me that Lavender is doing 3 things at once here. He is turning us against each other, making this thread that started out as a thread about a nice kid finding a nice snake all about HIM HIM HIM, and making both reptile keepers and religious folks look like sadistic monsters.....good job Lavender!!!

You can make anyone look like a sadistic monster if you spin it right ;)
