May have to rehome some snakes..

Ive decided to go bins for now,but it may be more like a couple years then months(aspergers and right now some bipolar issues).
I think some snakes do get benefit from larger tanks.I see my one corn hang out on his branches alot. They dont get that in a bin. They get no natural stimulation(the more diurnal the more important)..My gopher regularly sits with his head propped on the edge of the sliding glass and watches whats going on, he is surprising visual.Or he periscopes his head way up to take a look.He has options and I think thats part of keeping exotics. It has nothing to do with human emotions. And not just for the snakes benefit, its nice for me to be able to see and enjoy them(otherwise aside from breeding whats the point).
That being said I dont know if I would make a good breeder because I feel bad keeping a big active snake in a bin.So I may just end up keeping a few pets in the end.But deciding is the hardest part.

No I havent seen your racks but have seen some on other forums. If I do bins I would have to build it myself to save money too....Another issue is were to put a rack, look pretty ugly in the living room(LOL) and my bedroom is sooo cold.

I just looked at your Website Nanci and have to say that is one of the prettiest sites ive seen.Great photography too..

Nanci, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you have the nicest looking racks I've seen.

Nanci, did you make those or buy those? They are very nice looking. I house in custom cages now, but I'd like a nicer rack for the babies.

Nanci's are from Animal Plastics. I believe they were a custom size for her. I love my 32 qt AP racks!

Nanci has awesome racks, lol!

I'm having to rehome some of mine due to me moving and I hate it. One I am rehoming just makes me sick. It's a beautiful snake and so calm. I'm keeping 4 out of 10. A couple I don't mind parting with, but that one I would love to keep. I suppose if I really wanted to I could keep her and have 5 cages, but I think I've found her a good home, but I will miss her a lot. Maybe I need to re-think that.

Good luck in whatever you do.

What about keeping a few tanks and using bins for the rest? Then, rotate them around every three months or so. They'll each get some "spotlight" time in the tank. When you bring a new one out to the tank, it'll feel almost like getting a new snake! Enjoying them anew?!

The racks are Animal Plastics Economy Plastic. They are not custom, they just aren't pictured on the AP website. But you just call and ask for them! Or e-mail. Allie is the best!!

Those are awesome.I wish my livingroom could look like that. Not sure the hubby would approve. What size are those bins?? They look pretty roomy and you can see in them a bit too...My problem is its either the rack or the tanks.I have one wall in the livingroom I can use that is about 4 ft wide by 8ft tall(im short so tall is not great for me unless I buy a step stool).,
the other wall I have in that corner has the 2 custom cages I built which are 4x2x2 stacked on a 1 ft stand and have the bredlis and gopher in them..

Many of the tubs I used were as tall as any 20 gl so there's no reason why you couldn't have branches in there.

Joann, I think you're making a lot of this harder than it needs to be. :p

I see my one corn hang out on his branches alot. They dont get that in a bin.

... erm, yes, they can. You just buy a tall bin. Just buy this instead of this.

You should also take into consideration that adult sized corns don't really climb much like babies do. He's not a corn, but my everglade rat snake is around 4 1/2 feet long (not sure on weight, need a battery for my scale), and whenever he climbs up onto something or I place him on something, he will mostly just get comfortable and then perch there. Pretty much like this. Once he's comfortable, he'll sit there and just watch me.
I'm sure that if I put my hair up in a pony tail he'd curl up on my shoulders and just chill out.

There's also 96qt bins that are 34"L X 16"W X 13"H, and those offer a bit more space than a 20 gallon long tank. I can't find 'em online, but if you look around in stores, I'm sure you'll find them.

my bedroom is sooo cold.

So install heat tape.

At the moment I do have two shelves that have the baby corns in shoebox bins on 3 inch flexwatt. But even with a hotspot the rest the bin hovers around 70.
Plus if I close the door to keep the dogs out it can get even colder on some days. Thats why I had them in the warm bedroom that stays around 75 or over.

I'll figure something out.I binned my black milksnake and my hognose too.But the black milk is sitting on my treadmill because i dont know where to put the bin.
