White and "Dark" mice ??????

Rodentpro has white and Dark mice listed. Is there and difference nutritionally? Ive never noticed them selling Dark mice.
 
Nope, no difference. I havent had any problems, but I have heard that some snakes wont eat the dark ones because they are used to the white ones. My snakes dont care because they think I starve them and to them, anything is food LOL.

I actually recently got an order of dark mice from RodentPro and my snakes are chomping through them, as we speak :)
 
I heard some snakes are fussy about the color(I believe it was a all python post I read that would not eat white mice).

Angela my 2year olds like to pretend I starve them too lol! My sunglow likes to "kill" her frozen thawed mouse before she eats it lol! I never had an issue about the color of mice. But then corns really don't care do they? Food is food lol!

Edited to add:
White mice and dark mice are exactly the same animal. White/albino mice have a gene that when homo it removes all pigment. An albino mouse can be any color under, I had a albino mouse who was brindle, she threw brindles all the time when bred to a black mouse. Brindle is a dominate trait.

Do the snakes really even notice the color? I would think they would sense the smell/heat more than actually looking at the color.
 
Commonly the dark mice were/are used in the study of diabetes. The mice from this group tend to be higher in fat content. I've used them interchangeably with white and have seen no ill effects. Because people think their animal will refuse them based on color, they are usually cheaper. Food is food to my colony. lol

No difference nutritionally.

I breed my corns food, and I have every color imaginable!! out of 6 corns, not one cares what color the food is.

But you should see it when my Blizzard corn eats a black fuzzy!! You can see the black spot sliding down inside of him!!
 
The last order I got from rodent pro, I ordered 200 of them(fuzzy size) and it has worked out great. Less expensive is great !! We had to order because my mice just are not producing enough.
 
carpet pythons, balls, burms, and retics can all be fussy about the color of there food, even some Colombian boas can pitch a fit sometimes about color. I breed my own food, mostly rats. (and I order fuzzy and pinky mice online till my snakes get big enough to eat rat pinkies) and alot of ball python and burm owners will ask me to save the dark ones or albinos for them. since most of mine are tan, brown and black hoods with a white body.

I have had racist snake before who refused to eat the dark ones. Luckily I don't have any at this time because I have probably over a 1000 dark mice of various sizes in my freezer. lol

I also had a king that would only eat the dark ones but she was a WC so I am pretty sure that had to do with the not seeing white prey in the wild type of thing.

Flynn is my only picky snake. He's refused every dark coloured mouse I've offered him, yet will immediately take a white mouse if offered after. :nope:
 
I've had some picky buggers in the past, and am currently trying to get my Sunglow boa female back in the mood to eat. She never used to have any problems, but has been acting almost frightened of the rats lately (I've NEVER fed her live, so it can't be because of that). My corns, though? They eat anything and everything without question. So do my other rat snakes, milk, king, and my other boa.
 
Our Columbian boa was always picky about black or tan rats...but we found that covering her feeding tub or turning off the lights so she couldn't 'see' the color of the fur sometimes worked (she was a picky, picky eater anyway)

Most of our RodentPro mice are white...sadly, I didn't get the email about the dark ones being on sale until the day after my last order shipped :/ I would have gladly ordered dark mice and saved money ;)
 
I have a few that are picky. But 100+ that aren't. :licklips: Is this an ad for Rodent Pro? lol They really are awesome to deal with. In the Winter months my colony likes to take a break it seems. Tom "Tuttle" suggested we keep an electric heater on sice we keep them in basement. It did help alot. However I also have rodent pro in my faves and receive emails from them on sales! They are great to deal with!!
