Ball Pythons, WTF?

I beg to differ on all accounts. Go browse that list. Patterns, and colors are all over the place. Yes, the colors are a more limited palette than corns, but they are not just brown or albino.

I don't care if someone likes them or not, I know not everyone does, and I am 100% cool with that. What irks me is when people are dismissive of something, without giving it more than a passing glance and assuming it's all one way.

I have been on that site many times when I dated a guy who wanted to get into balls for the money. I just don't see anything special. I really don't. They all are yellow or brown. All the facebook forums i'm on that talk about reptiles are always all about the ball pythons, they'll post pics of them and list off these morphs and everyone gets so excited, but all i see are snakes that look like mine! lol. The silverish ones are nice, except some of the ones I've seen look like they are in perpetual shed. I don't like that. Robbie, I've seen all those pattern morphs, but they just don't stand out. The only pattern that does is pied, and I like those. Especially the panda pieds. I like lucistics too, in anything! I guess it's just a preference thing. I love my normal ball, but unless I can pick a pied ball that actually eats for around $100 I just can't see myself ever struggling with another ball. They just don't seem worth the time and money to me. I've never been so frustrated with a pet (minus the frilled lizard who doesn't eat) than with my ball python.
The only thing I like better about the ball is that he will sit in my lap and not move, so he's an easy tv buddy or snake to introduce people to when they are scared of snakes. Also, I like that almost all their traits are co Dom. That's nice

If I could "PICK" any BP Morph that is currently Available....

The Panda Ball would be the one...... Hands down!

Produced by Outback reptiles...2008 ??

Please correct me...if i'm incorrect.

Ooooo! Oooo!!!

(Deep Breath!)

Ok..... Fingers are crossed for you!!! (Maybe a few toes too! )

I have some kids that I'll let go cheap...
There are a few of them that I like but most of them don't strike my fancy, I suppose that's why I am ignorant on the morphs and tend to think like Michelle and stereotype them as browns and yellows. I know we are not correct and it's somewhat unfair to think that way, but we just don't have the same passion as others do. But that's what makes the world great, that many people have different passions.

I don't think you have to worry about pied prices, my friend Danny just sent me this...

That is one breeder's pied hatchlings so far this season. Pieds will be 450 this year, I"m willing to bet.

The nice thing about breeding your own balls is trading. I have numerous morphs in the upper $$$$, but all of them were traded for by producing other high end snakes. My initial investment was rather large, but it has paid off in spades.

I remember ...not that long ago.... the cheapest Pied was like $5000.00 ?? Sound right?

Yep, that was a few years back though.

Lot's of people are doing well from buying hets and producing from a het to het breeding. $50 for a het male, $100-ish for a het female, raise them up, boom, pieds.

I should have 2 or so pied varieties next season. I'm giving all mine a season off because of the power issues I had this year. They mean more to me as pets, than producers. I want to make sure they are peak condition.

Yep...

Can't blame ya! :)

That's not his hatchlings, it's his HOLDBACK hatchlings.

And what, pieds aren't already $450 in the US? :p

In Canada we just paid $700 for an adult breeder male. And a NICE one at that!

Yep, you should what he calls "the ugly ones" still freaking hot snakes in my opinions. :roflmao:

Low white males are pretty cheap, $400-500. They are still clearing $600 easy if they are sexy. Females are still up there though, as with any morph.

Pfft. The guy at Marks work is trying to sell a pied for 2000.00. He has had it for 7 months. Mark has tried to tell him. I am going to go in and tell him tomorrow.

I, personally, don't like some morphs of balls because they look sickly to me. But I am a simple girl and love normals and albinos LOL

The only ball python morph I find remotely attractive are pieds. But I also have an obsession with calico or calico-like animals so... yeah. And several years back when I first learned about pied the going price was $900. Nice to know it's gone down.

Honestly... ball pythons look too fat to me. And they're not the most amazing personality-wise. I don't think I'll ever own one in my lifetime.

I was rather disappointed to see how the Boas and Pythons greatly outnumbered the corns and kings at this past Daytona show. It would be nice to see more corn breeders attending these expos. I'm really hoping next week's FIRE expo in Lakeland will have nice corns available.

Unfortunately there's hardly any sort of corn market. They are easy to breed, produce large clutches, and are relatively cheap, so there is plenty of supply, but limited demand.

I also think corns are looked at as "beginner's snakes" and not that cool by a lot of people. Which I think is unfortunate. I've sold several higher end bps locally, and every time I've had a pick up at my house, I always get compliments on my corns and comments like "Whoa, I didn't know corns were so cool, or came in so many colors" and similar things like that.

They're just under appreciated by the hobby IMO, which is unfortunate.
