Newest Racks Built And Wired.

Jay@PJCReptiles

"Quality Before Quantity"
Hi Everyone,
Just got done building these two racks. The first one is a 41 quart 10 bin rack with each bin heated by it's own piece of 11" FlexWatt. The second rack holds two different sized bins, 32 & 15 quart, and is has belly heat as well but the FlexWatt was routed in a serpentine fashion to accommodate the different sized bins. I have included pictures as requested to show how each rack was wired as well. With everything included (melamine, bins, FlexWatt and rheostat) I think I have under $200.00 invested into each one. Good alternative to purchasing a smaller more expensive rack system. Plus it gives me something to do...lol. Thanks for looking and I hope you like.

Beuties! How did you find working with the melamine? How did you do your joinery? Can you give us some close ups of what you did, or plans perhaps :) Very good job!

Nice racks Jay. You can build me one of those, I think I can deal with that lol
That sounds good to me Sharon. I think your Ice girl should be an even trade. ;)

The melamine stock I used comes all precut from Home Depot. The edges are already finished and the pieces are "square" from the get go so assembly is easy. All you have to do is build it upside down. I am going to be making another one in the next week or so. You are not the first to ask to see a step-by-step. I think I will do this including a wiring tutorial as well. I said I was going to do it in the past and I guess I should stop putting it off.

Nice, neat wiring of the Flexwatt! When I do mine it always looks like a mess!
Thanks. I have a thing with it not being perfect when I am making something. Things like that kind of irk me if it is not just so...lol. I take a little extra time to measure and lay out exatly where I want the FlexWatt to be before I apply the tape. Plus I grab one of the five kids, whoever is in the general vacinity, and say "Here, hold this and don't move."...lol. Smoothing out the aluminim tape afterwards gives it a nice finished look. I use the edge of a BIC lighter and it works really well.

Those are incridible, Jay!

behold the power of duct tape! haha...just kidding. nice racks...im jealous!

Thanks for the nice replies everyone. I am happy you approve. ;)

Nice! Lets see...hmmm...I want one of those and one of those..what do I have to trade?? LOL

Great job Jay. They look fantastic!

Those look great! Thank you very much for the photos of the flexwatt wiring. I was wondering how to wire the separate 11" cut pieces together. Do you know approximately how much the racks weigh? I had some melamine cages in the past, and wasn't thrilled to have to move them!

Hi Kathy,
Thank you very much and you are right. These things are 6' tall and are kind of hefty. I don't know the exact weight but I bet it is over 75 lbs. I have built others in the past that are only 3' tall and are stackable. This is convenient when needing to move them. The tall ones definitely need two people to do the task.
