Official Daytona 2008 Thread

I'm awake and getting motivated.... I checked the batteries in my camera and they were dead which is a bad sign since I just put them in two days ago. I put them on the charger but my have to stop for a few more before arriving. We should get there at opening and head straight to Dons table until they open the floor. See ya' guys there...

I've got five minutes! Don Soderberg tempted me with a gorgeous ultramel stripe het anery, but I couldn't rob a bank in time. That was what I most wanted. Rich Z had an outstanding sunkissed lav pair- but an armored car didn't drop a bag in my path. I am sorely tempted by a locality rosy, even after my vow to stop buying non-corns. I even counted up all my cash and credit card balances when I got back to my room. Can't quite do it. And there was something else, a king I think, which also tempted me to break my vow, but the rosy wiped out my memory of it. Jeff Mohr has some very interesting non- and problem feeders, which I can afford, but what if they don't eat? I did learn of an interesting feeding method for non-feeders, which I heard from two unrelated breeders...And I saw a big ole normal western hoggie boy, which I could afford, who could live happily ever after in a ten gallon. Still, I am, as of yet, empty handed. And so are Robbie and Dave123, but we're the only hold outs. On to dinner!

Ok... it's 5:40 pm in Daytona... you have a grin on your face and something cool in the bag you're carrying around because you just couldn't pass it up. I know how it is. Someone post some pics already! I know you're at the dinner... that's no excuse ;). Can't wait to see all the cool stuff I missed this year. :)

Show was awesome. Here's a few pics. I had a blast, but if I had to list what the negatives were:

1 - money, although most of the vendors say they take credit/debit, two of the vendors i tried to buy from couldn't get their machines to work. there is only one atm in the building and its god awful slow and has a max of $100 withdrawal. Should've brought alot more cash.

2 - no scarlets kings, checked every colubrid vendor in the building.

But so what! I had a blast, only took home one snake, a female pastel ball for $100 bucks flat! Bought a few cages (pics below), a couple snake hooks, and TONS of frozen mice (no shipping!).

It's about time someone posted some pics! Looks like an awesome time. Don't forget when you post pics to label what they are for us newbies, k? Norm, what is that girl holding? Way cool!

Yeah, that was a sailfin dragon. I've never seen one before this show either!

Nanci, when you have time we would love to hear about the feeding method you heard about.

Thanks, Stephen

I had a great time! No, I didn't buy anything but I wasn't planning on it anyways! Nice pictures Norm. I am in the first one! Actually, a lot of us are.

I enjoyed hanging out with everyone today and I also met a lot of new people. My pictures are all on my cell phone but Nanci and Katie got some great ones for sure.

Norm! I saw scarlet kings!! They were on one of the end caps. I wonder if you were with Chewy right after I was! I forgot to mention, one of the best things I saw was Rich Hume hand-watering his hatchlings by dipping them into water. There was a dad and young boy- maybe five or six, who Rich was teaching to water the snakes. So cute. Norm, do you know who that is in the background of your Kathy and Bill picture? Gino Sassani, of In Cold Blood fame.

Dinner was lots of fun, although it was so cold I started to brumate. We overflowed the banquet room. Katie took a million pictures.

So, I'm going back tomorrow. Not sure if I will bring anything home or not.

The feeding method I heard of was: take a pink or appropriately-sized drumstick. Hold the snake by the neck, so it can't move away. Tap it in the face with the pink until it goes to bite, then pop the pink in. I heard this from both a kingsnake breeder and a cornsnake breeder. So a variation on the feeding method where you tap the snake along the side of the body, only you want it to be irritated enough to just give you the open-mouth threat, and then take advantage of that.

Elle- Katie's camera was on the fritz, so I took the liberty of taking a CRAPLOAD of pictures. I KNOW I've gotten well over a hundred so far, but tomorrow, I'll probably take a lot more.

As far as going away empty handed, I'm being very tempted by the female blood that Jeff Mohr has, and will probably wind up getting her tomorrow, if we don't find something else that tickles our fancy.

Hey all,
Made it home safe.
Had a great time, it was really neat to get to meet everyone. It was too much to see in one day :D
I am sorry that I missed Jeff Mohrs table but I did get a male sunkissed from Rich Z. (thanks to Susan).
I'm ready for some sleep, it was a long but fun day.
