Vegetarianism and the Environment

????? You remember when the South quit and took their ball home.

Actually, we WERE home.....we just wanted the invaders to leave us alone. That's besides the point. You CAN submit to end a war. I agree with that. But a war OF submission is an oxymoron. What happens?

We will shoot at you until you rule us!
No, you must rule us or we will shoot at you!

That would be a war of submission. Makes no sense.

God selected a few of his favorite souls and sent them directly to southern Utah. It was a form of spontaneous life. We just became.

Don't over think this KJ. It was just a comment on your "War of Aggression" comment. Might have even been a joke.

...if that is a factual excerpt representing legal truth. (I just never trust wikipedia.)
I don't trust wikipedia either... I have seen the 4 commonwealths somewhere before.. But as I was going out, to work, wikipedia came in handy to make a quick post....

Hey Mike, (off topic here as well) but I did the reincarnation thingy in your sig...I'm coming back as an elephant, can't say I'm unhappy with that...just what does it mean? what are you coming back as? do some people actually come back as cockroaches?
I'm going to be an Owl..... I haven't seen anyone come out as a cockroach yet...LOL

Mike it is very interesting that you would know that and we would not.
I'm a fan of Trivial pursuit.... And I like facts that are not commonly known, as well as facts that explode commonly held beliefs...

Actually when it is written as one word it does not imply that it is a fish. Silverfish is not a fish. Silver Fish are.

Dragonfly, butterfly, …are not flies. House Fly, Horse Fly,….are.

What about Hamster....

I am going to be reincarnated as a horse. I wonder what that means. Is horse better than elephant? Worse than elephant?? Are they trying to tell me I deserve to be made into glue? Hmm....

All I know is that in a fight I'd bet on my elephant over your horse any day...Do you think that's what they meant?

I think West Virginia has become a state since the War of Southern Submission.

That is HALARIOUS! That's what I call some awesome "ribbing"! I grew up here in the north, Ohio, but went to Ft. Myers. FL. every summer. The redneck part of town, for all that know Ft. Myers. LOL The "ribbing" towards me "The Yankee" was endless. My rebuttal was often "At least we won". North and south humor never gets old to me, Souther Submission! LOL

The war of southern submission, lol!!

Oh, and here is another link on the cow issue

http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid:194735

OK...but it STILL doesn't support your claim that cows produce "miniscule amounts" of methane, nor that their methane production is about the same as humans, as you claimed.

What it DOES say is that while cows produce an extraordinarily high amount of methane, they are not the sole culprit, nor are they the largest culprit. But that does NOT mean that their methane production is miniscule.

What it means is that vegetarianism and veganism are NOT the environmental cure that some people think they are...which I agree with, and stated early on...

Ditto!!!!!

I never meant vegetarianism and veganism were CURE to the environmental problem. They are just HUGE helping hands.

Of course methane produced by cows are not the only greenhouse gas affecting the Earth. As you said, cow's methane is not even the biggest polluter, but while the biggest polluters don't find a way to solve the problem, why not help the environment by switching diets?

I still believe this is a valid claim.

I always like to hear your reasoning Brent.
Do you mind expanding on that statement when you have a chance?

It's pretty simple really . . .
1. The idea that humans can change an entire planet that has been here loooooooooooong before us, and will be here loooooooooooooooong after us is fairly egotistical in my opinion, and
2. For a politician to receive a nobel peace prize for creating a movie about a scientific issue just reaks of . . . . well . . . . cow methane? :shrugs:
