Well All.....
We lost Whytsnake this last Saturday... While I was coming back from Dental Surgery in Grass Valley. Hubby being the love he is, allowed me those couple of days with out any added grief figuring I would find out quick enough when I got home... Unfortunatly, Whytsnakes death was not the only bad news!
Thur afternoon right before I left, I was showing Mom our snakes and Wha-La~ There are three of the prettiest, most perfect looking eggs ya ever did see in "Katchy's" box! (She is our Cert. Striper) So on our way out of town we stopped to tell Sean, as he needed some good news as bad as I did!
Well................sigh! Someone in this thread made the comment that they hoped "Whtsnakes prolapse Nightmare" wouldn't turn us off of breeding, because prolapses are after all... EXTREMELY RARE!" Well Guess what? They ain't THAT rare for us! No joke....
By Fri am, Katchy had laid 7 good eggs, 1 slug, and had ONE EGG STUCK IN THE OVIDUCT hanging out her vent, just like Whytsnake did!! It was only one egg, and so when it ripped through, it left a MUCH smaller "ball of guts" behind. This is what I came home Saturday to. Sean had done all I had done with Whytsnake, you know, kept it wet and the bedding clean... She also still had at least 3 eggs WAY up high in her at that time. As of today, she has pushed the eggs down near her vent... And the "guts" are small enough, that she has a MUCH BETTER possibility, than Whyt had, of passing those last few eggs.
I have to tell ya all.... We have one more gravid female.. "lil Momma" (who just yesterday had her pre-lay shed) and we have already decided... If this same thing happens to her too... WE ARE DONE! NO MORE BREEDING FOR US! Obviously that MUST be a sign! But I do have one question... If this "Prolapse" thing IS so rare, could it be possible that SOMEHOW, our ONE male that bred with them all is the culprit? Just curious and REALLY WISHING I HAD ANSWERS!
Once again, THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR ALL YOU HAVE HELPED ME WITH, AND ALL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT YOU GIVE SO FREELY!!
