Large rodent delivery with pics. now happy

That's a large order!!!
And I'm sorry to hear of your woes...

You guys have got the bug BAD!!!!
I love to see you collection someday!!!

I order from Big Cheese, too. The reason is that they will ship 2-day, which, since I'm only buying for a relatively small collection, saves me a buttload (relatively). The mice are nicely packaged and I've never had any trouble with melting even with 2-day shipping in the middle of the Texas and AZ summer.

Just got off the phone with them. They are sending us 2 free bags of rat pups, 1 bag of fuzzies, 1 bag of xl rats, and giving us free shipping if we decide to order from them again. I am satisfied with that. :)

Here are all the beasties. We ordered enough for 6 months.

(I thought it was going to be the rodent order!! Excellent collection!!) Well, that's fair of them to do that.

I use RP

But what was said is a some what true, they never stink at least not to me< I order mine once a month and they all always get used So I dont need vacumn packed besides as soon as the package gets opened theres that gone. Also I thaw mine under warm running water so they get a bath before they get eaten I am very happy with the feeders and I think MF is over priced!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mice Direct, which is who I buy from. They aren't as neatly packaged as TMF, but the prices are excellent and the mice are fine.

I have ordered from Big Cheese and I think their prices are in between Rodentpro and TMF. I was pretty satisfied with their mice. I would like Rodentpro more if they vacuum packed their mice, but I understand why they dont due to their prices. If you have a lot of animals and plan on using the mice pretty quickly, then its a great deal.

I stopped using Big Cheese completely due to CS problems. Product was GREAT. Prices were really good. Packaging was awesome. Shipping prices were a little high (probably due to "padding" of the low rodent costs, but who cared?).

....but for over 18 months they got so you would order 3,000 mice, and they'd only ship you 500 because they were "out of the others." Dang! That is not acceptable. I need to be able to place an order and KNOW I was getting what was ordered. If they would have told us in advance, I could have ordered the missing stock somewhere else. They couldn't/wouldn't, so it was a surprise when you got the box and looked to see what was there.

"Surprise - adults aren't eating nest week!" What fun. :( Poor CS. I don't know what was up, but they ran me off after doing that multiple times. One time, I ordered a month in advance and DROVE up there to get 4 LARGE boxes of rodents. Took the truck. The large and small box I got fit in ther passenger seat instead of the LOAD I needed. What a waste of a 4+ hour one-way drive! Dang. That was my last order. 4 week notice and I was still hosed! Grrrrrr!

On the shipping, I order to fill up a box since a full box doesn't cost much more to ship than an empty box. When I get a half full box, that means the per-mouse cost is a LOT higher. With the number of animals we have, even 3 cents per mouse can be a LARGE difference for the bottom line. :( ...and full boxes stay frozen better. ;)

Yeah I guess the best strategy really depends on whether you're feeding large collections or small ones. It would take me forever to go through enough mice to "fill a box," and it would take up lots of space in my freezer. I usually order around 80-$100 of mice and that lasts me for around 6 months. So, $60 shipping on top of that just seems like way too much to pay.

So Big Cheese has never sent me only a partial order and have always told me on the phone when they're out of something. But maybe that's easier to do on their end when I'm only ordering one or two packages of each size.

I have always went with rodent pro. So far, I have never had a problem. *knocks on wood* I admit that the mice are not layed out nicely and are often frozen in contorted shapes, but I give them a nice warm bath before I feed them off anyway, so they usually straighten out nicely. I have been using them since 2001 and I can say I have always been fortunate that the bags were labeled and the dry ice contained. As far as poop and bedding are concerned...I do see an occasional mouse turd and a few flakes of bedding, but never anything extreme. I figure that I am handling dead mice already... so its not like a few poops and a bit of bedding is all that bad. Good luck to all in their mouse purchasing.

I grow my own rodents. It is cheaper. It is more fun. However, It is more work. it is more cost in setup. I'd have to kill them if my snakes only ate f/t. I don't have 50 thousand snakes. I would prefer the room for more snakes. I just don't have money and love seeing my mice grow and my snakes kill. Best to you all. Find somebody like me in your town. I gladly feed my friends snakes for cost. (about a dollar a rodent, half for pinkies & fuzzies)

Well, that would be cool to know someone that breeds there mice. The problem with that though is you can get mice for about pretty cheap with rodentpro. pinkies are only 12 cents a piece. Adults are like 45 cents I think a piece. Unfortunately, Lauren and Tara had a bad batch and experience with them. For the most part though, we don't have those problems. Luckily enough for me though, there is a local show where RodentPro sells rodents and well, I can get a different bag if I don't like the look of the one I get.

Wow! I was planning on buying from mice direct! :bang:
What do I do? I can't do rodent factory. It's just too expensive!

WHAT DO I DO!!

(Panicing! PANICING!!)

I also use Rodent Pro. Never had a problem. sure they are not vacuumed packed, but the snakes don't seem to mind. lol. I guess I just don't think much about it. I do think it is funny though, how people worry more about what their snakes are eating, yet don't realize what they put into their own bodies!! lol!:sidestep:

calm honey. calm.
mostly, as long as they arrive the proper size, and are still frozen (without being freezer burned) you are OK.
why not try a tester batch from a website? that way, your not stuck with a lot of mice you dont want.

I live in Saskatchewan Canada here is some "food" for thought when it comes to prices for f/t mouse prices.

Petland(+10% tax)

Sm Adult $3.78/each $3.48/each
M Adult $4.48/each $4.08/each
Lg Adult $5.28/each $4.78/each

The other pet store in my city that sells frozen mice is on average $.20 cheaper than the lowest price at Petland.

In my opinion Rodent Pro or even The Mouse Factory are not expensive, esp. when used to paying the prices I have been paying.:nope:
