Large rodent delivery with pics. now happy

Update!

Now that we are using these awful things..it gets worse!

13 of the smelly horrible things (out of 35) burst at the gut tonight. God it was awful. They smell just plain rotten! What would cause that? :realhot:

Also several in the last few batches have been headless...now you tell me, how does a mouse get a severed head (clean cut) when they are gassed and then thrown into bags? Hmmm?

RodentPro is on MY BOI naughty list for sure. Never cheating on the mousefactory again! UGH!

Well that's pretty gross! I would assume that they were not frozen immediately after being gassed OR that they had thawed and then re-froze. The reformation of ice crystals can really cause problems once they are thawed again, I've had similar things happen.

I'm expecting an order of 800 mice from them this week! I hope I have better luck than you, but I'll definitely take the route you did and complain if anything goes wrong.

Odd, none of my rodent pro mice have ever exploded like that. And the severed heads happen fairly easily when they're frozen as, after the extremities, they are the weakest points. You could probably just snap the head off easily of a frozen fuzzy, and that's the largest size I've ever seen headless.

I hate rodent pro. They do a sloppy job and never seal the mice right. American rodent supply is the best hands down!

We have the EXACT same freezer. I have the key on my keychain though I've never locked it.

Was this purchase on one of their big sales? I have to admit I've been tempted by the emails, but I had a bad experience as well. Mice were busted up really bad, missing hair, stinky when thawed and VERY freezer burned. My experience honestly seems to have been one in a million (Ok maybe two, lol though at least they didn't explode), but it's still my experience.

The good news is they have great customer service. I'll bet they'll replace everything for you.. They did for me even though I told them I wouldn't order again. My replacements were many and in good condition (though poopy).

I had my first headless mouse from RodentPro in the most recent batch. My mice from them have never looked like that though...

Hey Tara,

Wasn't sure if I should start my own thread, but I mentioned I was getting a Rodentpro order soon so I thought I'd update.

Though they left them on my doorstep and I was worried that someone would steal them (Considering the box was labelled Frozen Meat with a blacked-out return address, and I live in the steak capital of the country...) they arrived safe and sound.

I ordered 800 mice, they were all very clean and well-packed. The dry ice bag DID have a hole in it, but the pellets had thankfully stayed inside. They were not vacuum-sealed, but the mice all looked in good condition with no dirty bedding. Pinkies were also mostly intact with very little missing feet/tails, and no decapitated mice that I know of!

I think you just got unlucky with them, and I'm glad they are replacing some of your order! I took photos of the order (and my new chest freezer, too!)

That last photo is after I dumped out a whole bag of pinkies to check them, those were the only broken bits.

That yellow insulation works great for lower level vivs in the winter, for wrapping around and under aquarium stands! BTW.

Wish i had seen this thread before I place my order with them. The pinkies and fuzzy's don't look bad but the weanlings have poop pellets and bedding in them. Won't be ordering from them again. Which is fine as I am looking into breeding my own.

Jenn, The Mouse Factory has beautiful sparkling white mice that look like they were shampooed before packing. All lined up straight in a row. No poop or bedding, ever.

Is there anywhere that does a better job with their mice that also sells quail chicks?

Thanks Nanci, wish I knew that before I ordered from rodent pro. I will have to remember that for next time. I sure as heck won't be using RP again. Does Mouse Factory vacuum pack their mice?

Yes they do. And the mice are plump and nice, not skinny like some places. Especially hoppers- they have the _best_ hoppers!! Everywhere else seems to do such a porr job with that size.

Definitely impressed with what I've seen of The Mouse Factory... a few of us are eagerly expecting our own snakes from Dorgrim's clutch, so it looks like we'll be doing a group order on some mice. Call it catering :D
