Vietnamese Blue Beauty Rat Snake

Taste the Rainbow
I was researching into getting one of these possibly for my birthday.. but I can't find much info or pictures of VBB's in America. Does anyone own these? (in the states or otherwise) Can you show pictures and care facts please? I love their color and everything but I want to learn as much about them as I can before trying to buy one, like a good pet owner should :p

I have also been looking into getting on to contrast my Taiwan Beauty Snake. They are very stunning snakes and I know that a few members on here have them. Fred being one (thethunderer).

I have one as well (the male of a pair...the female is owned by another forum member, tsteph3). I'm just on my way out, so no time to share pictures or anything, but I'll try to get back in an hour or so to help you out. :)

Quick note: They have a decent chance of some what sour personalities. I heard the same about the Taiwan Beauties also before I bought her. When mine was younger she had almost split personalities. Dr Jackle and Mr. Hyde. Now with age and patience, she has become a very nice and easy to handle snake. I do have to sometimes read her and know when it is a good day to get her out and when it isn't. I will say when they are in good they are amazing snakes... when they are in an evil mood... well if they want blood they will get it.

I absolutely love these snakes and can't wait to get more of them, but I like giving people a heads up on their "interesting" personalities. Good luck and when you get your's definitely post pictures!

They also get to a good size, which can be extremely menacing if they get in one of those "bad" moods Malinois mentioned. If I recall correctly, Vietnamese Blue Beauties are the largest Beauty species... I've also heard VBBs are also the most prone to being consistently moody, but I may have heard wrong. They're rather quick, and strong.

Take everything negative I say with a grain of salt--my TBS is one of those (probably somewhat of a rarity) that will never be "easy" to handle... 6.5 feet of ravenous fury that will attack and attempt to eat whatever comes close (be it a towel, a pair of tongs, or your hand). This big girl is my only experience with Beauties, so, on the note of "personal experience," the only information I can supply is pretty negative... Even with my "negative" experience, though, I LOVE Beauties--it's one of my life-long "herp dreams" to one day have a (somewhat, at least) docile Beauty snake... They're so great! =)

VBB's are awesome snakes, but you need to be prepared for a very LONG snake that can be full of vinegar. VBB's can get over 9 feet long, and 13 foot long snakes aren't unheard of. Because they're also very active snakes, you're going to need a very large enclosure for one to be happy. They're definitely not a tub snake.

Thanks for all the info on Beauties. I've been reading about their moods, which doesn't bother me. I read how a guy had to use tongues to get his Beauty out every time. I hope by getting one young and handling it regularly I can train mine to calm down for the most part. I've had corns with attitudes before but brought them around too, hopefully I can achieve the same with a VBB.

As far as my research could find, they require a habitat similar in temp, layout, etc. to a corn. If I'm misguided on this someone please let me know! I definitely have read about their size and about having a large enough cage for one. I have a 36x12x16 (30 gallon?) tank that I could put it in and about year or so down the road I plan on making my own display unit. (I have a thread about it in the DIY section)

Still trying to find anyone in the US who breeds/sells them. Thanks again to all who have posted on the thread! Still researching.. lol.

I believe Trent and Hallie got their pair from Amy Zerkle. Ben Siegel has a few every now and then, and so does Gourmet Rodent.

I found a pic of a baby VBB on Faunaclassifieds. I love their faces, especially their eyes. Hope some people who actually own them can post pics too (wink wink :p)

You would be correct Robbie!! :)

The pictures I have aren't the greatest, and Kylar obviously hasn't developed all of his blue yet, but here he is. He's just a little guy now, but like Robbie mentioned, he'll get big...his parents were both well over 9 feet long.

I'll try to get a few more before I feed tonight.

I suggest Amy Zerkle! Great breeder great person!

I'll second that! I really enjoyed talking to her at the show when Trent and I bought Kylar and Devana. She really seems to know her stuff.

I'm not sure where in OH you live, but we got ours from Amy at the Cleveland show, and I think she probably does the Columbus shows as well (but I'm not entirely sure).

If you run a search here for 'Devana', I'm pretty sure Trent has a progression thread started for her with more photos.

The coolest thing about the VBB, is they look like three or four different patterned snakes were put together to make one! Bree you're close enough to go to the Cleveland show, I guarantee you won't regret it! Good chance of finding one there too!
ps) The Zerkles basically run the show and you could contact them and ask if they plan on having any at the show.

I live in Kent which is about 45 minutes from Cleveland, it's between Akron and Youngstown. I went to the Cleveland Reptile Show for November and didn't see one.. but then again I was looking more at snow corns at the time. I definitely plan on going to the one for December! Definitely going to try to contact The Zerkles too!

I think the only person that had them was Amy. She only had three of them with her, and Trent and I bought a pair.

We'll definitely have to plan on meeting up in December! I know I'll be there for sure to pick up feeders.

Lol... You guys are all terrible. I'm aching for a baby Beauty again now! ;)
(I think I'll stick with Taiwans, though. 6-9 feet is plenty enough for me! ... For now... -Dun, dun, dun!-)
