Vietnamese Blue Beauty Rat Snake

I think the only person that had them was Amy. She only had three of them with her, and Trent and I bought a pair.

We'll definitely have to plan on meeting up in December! I know I'll be there for sure to pick up feeders.

That sounds awesome! I just have one question.. how much does a VBB roughly cost? (I know by asking this that I probably jinxed myself and cannot afford one..)

I can do 75 or so... just a matter of convincing the boyfriend that one... more... snake... won't... hurt... (gives him the puppy eyes) lol.

I think Amy was asking $65 each...we paid $100 for the pair.

Just keep in mind how big they get. Its one thing to get another corn (or two ), but an entirely different beast to get something that could easily get over 10 feet long. Will you have space for a very large enclosure for a very active semi-arboreal snake? Not trying to dissuade you, just make sure your boyfriend knows all the facts. :) Oh, and I've noticed that Kylar is a little stinky...not just his poo, but just overall a little, erm, different smelling. It isn't bothersome now, but I don't imagine it will get any better as he gets bigger.

Yeah I've been thinking about his size. Once I'm done with college, a year from now, we plan on getting a house and stuff. He told me I can use a room for my reptile room! (He's such a good boy. Lol.) I think I might have to wait at the moment and see. Once I have a snake room I'm building a large display case for all my reptiles I have as well for all the ones on my wish list. (My thread: http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90434 )

Guess right now my biggest obstacle is patience. At least it gives me more time to research.

I live in Kent which is about 45 minutes from Cleveland, it's between Akron and Youngstown. I went to the Cleveland Reptile Show for November and didn't see one.. but then again I was looking more at snow corns at the time. I definitely plan on going to the one for December! Definitely going to try to contact The Zerkles too!

Lol, crazy. I live in Ravenna and go to KSU..

I found a pic of a baby VBB on Faunaclassifieds. I love their faces, especially their eyes. Hope some people who actually own them can post pics too (wink wink :p)

Smelly is right. Of all my animals, there is one who you KNOW who has pooed. When Lucy defecates, you just have to walk into the room to know... It's not too bad, though, especially if the culprit will let you spot clean afterwards. (Oh, and always remember--big snake=lots of poo! My girl only defecates once per feeding cycle, but it's always nice and big...) I haven't noticed the overall unique smell yet, but I don't exactly have a lot of opportunity to go Beauty-sniffing... Lol. =)

They certainly are active, too. The only time my girl isn't cruising is when she's digesting a big meal, she's in shed, or my room is especially cold. One of my biggest plans is to give her a nice, big viv at least as long as she is (preferably longer) as well as as deep and tall as I can manage. I seriously think an adult Beauty would utilize every inch of space you could give it.

Oh, and again...

Not trying to dissuade you, just make sure your boyfriend knows all the facts. :)

Ditto. =)

Shakalu is in a 120 gallon and when she is active she uses the WHOLE tank and she is only 7 feet. And with the poo... yes... it is an awful smell! Definitely a bit unique. When we get our VBB and he is full grown he might end up in a home built viv in the basement with the boas.

The more info I get the more I'm realizing that getting a VBB at the moment is not a good idea. I love everything thing about them, smells and all, but I don't want to have a beautiful snake that I can't provide for. I want all my children (and future children) to be happy. Maybe in a year or so, then I can have the space for one, also gives me time to build a display and learn lots.

Another note, we need to have a herpers party with all you peeps around here with reptiles.. especially anyone with a VBB. Just because I can't have one doesn't mean I can't pet and play with others'. >:D

Oh, YES! A VBB thread!! Love them!

As Sheldon (Malinoiski) mentioned, I have one. Her name's Kokoro and I absolutely LOVE her. :) Here's the link to her thread... Kokoro!

When I bought her, Kokoro's parents were in the store. Dad was about 9 feet long and Mom was larger. I didn't measure her, but the person who sold Kokoro to me said that Mom was 13 feet long... and seeing her in the tank with Dad... well, I have no reason to doubt it!

Kokoro has a very decent demeanor. She has never actually bitten me, but she has struck at me with an open mouth. I am very cautious with her when I have her out as she almost always has a "sinister" look and "feel" about her. :) She's one of my absolute favorites!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I think these are amazing snakes and hope to have LOTS of people get into them. You won't be sorry!

Let me know what you think of her pics too! I know I've got to update her again. LOL.

EDIT! I just read your last post... sorry that you're rethinking things. That's okay though. Wouldn't want you to get one and have to rehome it later. It is good that you're taking all things into consideration - very responsible of you.

Hope you DO get one in a year or so. It'll be GREAT!

AND... IF you're ever in Phoenix... C'mon over and have some fun with Kokoro. She'll knock your socks off! :D

Hey Fred... a little birdy informed me that I may or may not be getting a VBB for Christmas... i'll keep you in the loop. :)

When I first got into VBB's it was from gawking over your thread. Lol! And as much as I want, like really really want, one I know in my heart that I should wait. It's so hard to, I've never been a person for patience, but the animals always come first. Between two corns, a parrot, and two huskies our apartment/townhouse is pretty stocked. A VBB with a setup will probably be my only Christmas present next year.

And if I'm ever in Phoenix, I will definitely be stopping by! :grin01:

And one more thing. As far as information about VBB's goes I can't find much out there except for one website. Are there any books about them I can buy or places to find information that you recommend?

We had a cookout this past summer, and I know we're planning on having a lot more get togethers next year. I'm hoping to plan one out at our farm sometime (and then we can come back to my house and play with the snakies!!). :)

There are a few websites out there. My favorite one... although she hasn't sold any in a while is www.bluegorgon.com. Sheree is a wealth of information on VBB's and is who I turn to if I have any questions. She's not breeding any currently, but I hope that turns around soon. If you have any questions, you can PM me anytime. If I don't know, you can contact her directly through her website or I would be happy to forward them to her for you. Anything to help out a possible VBB owner. LOL.

KOKORO!!!! I lurves her....I sure hope Kylar turns out to be as fantastic looking as she is!
Thanks, Hallie! I'm sure he'll be quite handsome. I have YET to see an "ugly" VBB. :)
