This all could have been avoided if i had been home....
The day I left I had found that the eggs were pipping.... I told my mom to call my brother in law. She did, and we set them up in my female's cage with moss and everything and moved her to an old 5 gallon. And here is the problem. Thinking that they needed warmth, my mom put the unhatched eggs right on the heat. They essencially cooked before they got out. the count was: 6 dead amels
X dead normals
3 bad eggs

We are lucky that we came today. We really saved 2 of them. we ripped the eggs open and saved a normal amel. its an albino!!!! we didn't expect any and that is great!! and then we got 3 normals. the albino is male, so that will fit great in my program. but still, this is a bummer. :(
And I can't blame my mom, she didn't know any better........................................

plus there were two out of their eggs so we have a total of 4. I am going home for good tommorow so hopefully everyone is doing ok, especially the amel.
 
I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm wondering why you had to move the eggs in the first place?
 
The eggs were moved because my brother in law thought it would be good if we put them in an actual tank. He just didn't think that my mom would put them on the heat.

yeah, she feels really bad about it... Anyone who doesn't know about snakes would think that they need to be warm. I am not going to try to blame her. There are a bunch of what if's in this story. What if i had stayed home? What if my brother in law had come to set it up himself, etc etc etc....... It is really all three of our faults. it was a chain of events that came together to form this big mess. I am able to say though that all snakes that survived are doing great :)

I have not ever bred so please don't take this as me saying I know better. I just noticed that your rack system has no lids for the containers and I have recently read a thread on here http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86451 where the person lost 2 hatchlings from a rack system as well. Their rack system was specifically for hatchlings and still they managed to get out and one got hurt and one has not been found the last time I checked the thread. Others have also stated the same problem, with hatchlings and using rack systems with tubs without lids. You have already had some rough luck so to speak, I just thought I would warn you of the possibility as it would really suck if you lost any more of your first clutch.:cry:
 
As long as the tubs fit very tightly up against the rack then it should be fine. I'm sorry you lost the other ones. I leave the eggs alone until they hatch and then transfer each baby to their respective tubs, number them etc and then leave them alone until they've had 3 meals.
 
congrats on the one who did hatch. That first clutch is always very exciting no matter the morph. Way to go and good luck on the others.
