I Can Finally Stop Being Jealous of Everyone Else's Pippies!

Susan

Go Ahead, Make My Day!
My first clutch laid went bad so I've been going crazy the past 2 weeks waiting for the next one to start pipping. I've also been worried because the temps in the snake room where all my clutches are incubating on the shelves have had some high spikes during the unusually hot weather for June we've been experiencing. But I woke up this morning to 2 pippies and now 2 more!

Mom is a lavender het hypo stripe and Dad is a hypo motley het anery. By the looks of things, they have both also proven out to be het amel. I help widen the slits to make sure the pippies don't get stuck and it looks like I'm seeing some plain bellies on these 4 as well!

I know how you feel! Mine started right before I went on a 4 day vacation and I could not enjoy it! I came home and one clutch was done so I did not get to watch them go through the process! I still have a few clutches though :)

CONGRATS!!!

They are so adorable! Do you always widen the slits? How?

99% of the time, I widen the slits. I have 2 thumb forceps (glorified tweezers) that I use to simply grab the egg shell and tear it to open the slit more. Usually I don't have to do much, maybe just break that little connections where the hatchling has already made several slits next to each other, but sometimes, a hatchling will have made just a small slit that it can barely get it's head through. I've had one or two die because they got stuck and couldn't get back in the shell or get out, and have heard of that happening to other breeders' hatchlings as well.

I continue to be sooooooooooooo jealous of you all as my eggs are still eggs. Fat swollen not even denting yet eggs might I add.

Congrats, It is so cute when you see their little heads sticking out. Can't wait. my only bred female this year slugged out,
Marsha

Congratulations Susan! I'm still a few weeks away from pippies, but I can enjoy watching everyone elses hatch while I wait :)

First 4 babies are out of their eggs...hypo male, a pair of hypo motleys (female is the sweet one in my hand) and an amel male that just wouldn't sit still for a photo.
