"Auratum" Clutch

Only 4 snakes hatched out of my "Caramel" het. Bloodred, Striped clutch this year.
Apparently these "Caramels" are not! hom. Caramel...

Here are the parents again.
1.0 "Auratum" het. Caramel,Bloodred,Striped,Amel

0.1 "Auratum" het. Caramel,Bloodred,Striped,ph. Amel
Bild019.jpg

The first ones have shed the first time today:

#1 (1.0)

#2 (0.1) hom. Bloodred

these are the other two siblings (not shed yet):

#3 (0.1) Bloodred Striped

#4 (0.0.1)

so... what is going on here?!??!! is it buf of somethin else???

oh i forgot this:

my "caramels" came from the breeding:

Caramel Bloodred X Caramel Striped het. Amel

Apparently the Caramel Striped is not hom Caramel respectively hom. for something else too?!

I remember being very confused about this the first time around. But- I love the bloodred stripe!!!

Woah, they threw such a beautiful Stripe!!

This is very odd.. the only one that really looks like a Caramel to me is the last hatchling pictured. The others all look too red.

I have a very oddling snake who I suspect is an Amel Mot het Caramel. The wierd part though, is his parents were both Butter Motleys, an all of his siblings were as well! He was the only wierd amel looking one.. He had way too much orange and red at birth.
People have suggested Auratum line, but I have absolutley NO idea what that is all about.. so :shrugs:

PS: He is the snake in my Avatar. He's about 4 in this picture and his color has even been muted over the years. He used to be even MORE orange.

I just recently picked up a trio of 1 Ultramel Stripe het Caramel Diffused and 2 Amel Stripes het Caramel Diffused. In all three animals, the het for Caramel drastically impacts the amount of Yellow coming out on all three snakes. A lot of other people believe that being het for Caramel is always visible in snakes that carry it. Could be what's going on here. :Shrugs:

I agree with Jessica...the last hatchling looks like a caramel, which is what I would expect from het caramel parents and in the proper ratio too! Oh, I personally would also be careful labeling the stripe as homozygous bloodred as well. I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless there was a non-homo bloodred stripe sibling to compare to...and even then, with the apparent vanishing stripe, I would wait until breeding trails confirmed the genetics.

the "auratum"/caramel bloodred ??? shed again.... very strange :eek1:
well... I like this little critter veeeery much

Well... "auratum" is the original name of a butter striped line from a german breeder.
These butter stripes are (just from hatch) very bright and have a "golden look".
This is one "auratum striped" from Frank Schaub:

I got a pair of "caramel" het. bloodred, striped ph. Amel from that breeder.
My "Caramels" came from the breeding:
caramel striped het. amel X caramel bloodred het. amel
This caramel striped is one of the snakes that produces the so called "auratum stripes".
Well my own clutch this season and also the clutch of mactopa (who got also got some of these animals) shows that our corns are not! hom. caramel
Here is a link to the breeding results of mactopa:

I also paired my male "caramel"het.blood, striped, amel with a snow caramel motleyXstriped from Frank Schaub.
In that clutch were also some normals, snow striped, anery striped, caramel striped and amel striped.
Here is one of that Anery MotleyXStriped:

And here on of the Snow Striped:

So my male is also het. anery... but not! hom. caramel. :sidestep:

I only got this little clutch with 4 good eggs.. so I hope next year I'll have more eggs. :nyah:

ah... here is a picture of the blood(?) striped after first shed... she should shed in a couple of days again

and here on of that caramel thing:

What a great bunch, if you don't want to take the time to figure them out just send them this way and I will do it for you.
Congrats
John

I love that striped, what ever it is! I also like the looks of the parents, congrats. I'm also glad some one else asked about the whole "Auratum" thing, cause I had never heard of it either, Thanks!

I don't even care what those are....that clutch deserves serious respect!

I don't know but they are drop dead AWSOME! Congrats I hope something new is found in there, really really nice production.:crazy02:
