Button is one snake you -really- don't want to make it into the bite club with :)
Adorable as heck though

The eyelash vipers in general are pretty laid back. He's rarely struck out at anything except the water spray occasionally and once in the holding tub while I was cleaning his cage out. He struck in my direction. He was scared though I'm sure...being a tiny little snake in this big deep bucket. Otherwise he rides the hook well and is mellow as can be. Definitely one you'll have to make sure you don't get complacent with.

I love button, but eyelash vipers have always been my fav. hot snake. Do you keep anything around in case he does get you?

My goodness, Button is ~cute~ as anything. Too bad he's a venomous snake. The green python is beautifully colored, I always loved the little green grass snakes as a kid for that delicious color.

Nice

Can you have it so its gets its venom sacks removed? Dont see what that would hurt since its a pet. Very cool snakes, dont get bit!

Danielle: Anti venin is the same as for the Crotalus species so our local hospital has it in stock. They don't usually require too much though and with his size he can't produce huge amounts at this time.
Stephen: There is such a surgery, but no vets will do it as it's quite bad for the snake. The unlicensed vets that do it often butcher job the snakes and often they don't remove the sacks, only the muscle that overlays it, leaving the snake still quite venomous. Many snakes die from the surgery and it's done without anaesthesia a lot of the time in someone's garage. If you can't keep a hot, don't keep one. They use the venom to help break down the prey and to remove the glands does the animal no good. It also creates complacency in the handler. I am completely against venomoids and the barbaric practice of surgery should be outlawed.

In addition to what was stated above, the venom serves a function of the digestive system- beginning to dissolve prey before it enters the body.
It hurts the snake, in short- we should not seek to alter animals to fit our convenience
