Mingo 2009 Serpenco Opal Stripe: Waste Not Want Not

Nanci

Alien Lover
So I have this snake who doesn't like weanling mice, but who will eat rat pups or fuzzies or whatever they are. But the rats I have are too big, so to make them the correct weight, I cut off the arms and legs. And some lucky snake gets the drumsticks!! Usually it's an adult, but tonight little Mingo got the treat! She's ready to go up to hoppers, but got a large fuzzy tonight. Then I gave her some snacks!

I've been feeding limbless rats for a while. No snake has ever turned down the extra treats! I've been giving them mostly to the gravid mommy snakes, but they are all blue right now. It's funny how they'll eat such small things!

Wow Nanci! What a beautiful Opal. She looks like she is really enjoying those legs! I'm sure little bits and pieces like that help their digestion as well.

Mingo is a great feeder! She probably thought I'd lost my mind when I gave her four extra pieces!! She's 56 grams now. The last Serpenco opal stripe female...Isn't she a beauty!!! I can't wait till 2012!! She's really a sweetheart, too, and very photogenic.

She is so pretty!!! I can tell by those shots that her colour is outstanding....I hope she retains every ounce of it, as she (quickly) becomes an adult!!! :)

Oh geeze, this is giving me flashbacks to a time when I was in between Mice shipments and decided to experiment with chopping up rats! Hrm... not for the squeamish!

The snakes seem to love it though!!

Mingo looks great! Can't wait to see her photoshoot!! I'm already guessing about who this famous professional snake photographer is (someone from CS? ) , but I'll keep quiet until then!

DYK not _quite_ that famous (yet!!) Chuk! But I think the quality is comparable!! But Chuk, BL does photography seminars at the Florida shows quite often- we should go sit in on one some time!!

Hrmmm after reading another thread of yours ( I'm not a stalker, I SWEAR!) I'm 90% sure who this allusive photographer genius is! My lips are sealed until the premier. :grin01:

I have never seen a snake like Mingo - the colouring is amazing - and she looks like she shares the greed thing with three of mine.

Your suggestion about 'drumsticks' might help mine, as the two adults seem to always have problems with the legs and tails - and they might make a suitable snakey-snack for my two little ones...

thanks for the idea..

Mingo's really beautiful! She's obviously taking pleasure from her little delicacies. She reminds me of the way I approach dark chocolate truffles....
