$109 for a normal corn o.O

Jenn_Tigercat

Got Ghosts?
Ok yeah what the.... I was at the pet store today getting some mice. Needed a couple of males as well as some females to get another breeding colony going, plus my male who hadn't eaten in a month decided he doesn't want f/t anymore.

Anyway while I was there I was looking over at the reptiles. They had a corn snake for $109. I asked what kind of corn it was and they told me it was a normal. 109 for a normal corn to me that is just crazy. I was shocked especially when normals are so common. They said that was what they normally charged that is just psycho.

HAHAHAHAHA here for a "normal" you'll pay at LEAST 149... I saw a caramel in another store for 229 o_O

Rediculous I tell you!

Especially if it was a mom and pop store that does not breed there own snakes it is not uncommon to see that kind of price.

Heh... those prices were at Petland and Total Pet here in Prince George... Hardly mom and pop :p

I can imagine paying that much for a really high quality normal...which I seriously doubt the one at the pet store was. Normals are $49 here.

Haha, I know. My snake poops right after I change the substrate, and it gets me so mad! That would be a nice quality in a snake.

My Amel always poo's in his water dish... does that make him potty trained :shrugs: ;) LOL! I should charge a premium for him :smash:

Yeah, as Cattsy said, you guys gotta come to Canada! lol! I've been TRYING to get as many stores that I can to reduce their prices, encouraging them to stay with a double or triple on what I charge them, but many have been getting over $100 for a normal corn for years so understandably they can be slow to change...

I do think it's nice that up here in it SEEMS that the lowest level pricing on a corn publicly advertised is $30 or so, I don't think it does anyone much good to have them marketed to the public for less than that, but if pet stores would realize that they can introduce people to the assortment of higher end morphs for fair prices and keep 'em coming back for me, I think they'd be much farther ahead and reaping benefits on all those feeder mice and shavings sales...

Oh well :shrugs:

my local pet store has a butter corn for $260 dollars! it's been in there for almost a whole year...i wonder why?

i used to work at that store too, i even offered to do all the "reptile shopping" for the owner so that she could start charging fair prices and maybe actually move some of the animals, but she said "no no no no it's easier this way, the wholesaler just ships it right to me!"

yeah...easier...but i bet she's paying at LEAST double what the wholesaler paid, and then she doubles the price AGAIN, and then when it stays in the store too long...she RAISES the price! yep, sick and twisted logic i tell ya

Thats the Canadian Market though, not the same as the US market, regardless of what anyone thinks.. As long as you remember, Canadian or American, stroes are going to want to get the babies for as cheap as possible to flip them to make as much as possible..

I bought my normal at the store I work at and he would have been $95 (but he was on sale...free with purchase of his viv). But we also had a ghost for the same price at the time and we also sold an amel for the same price not too long ago. I just bought a snow motley at Petsmart that was regularly $140, but was on sale for $90. I saw a normal at a small specialty reptile place for $100, but he was a sub-adult.
