16 eggs, 16 perfect hatchlings!!!!!

Now to figure out the morphs......... I bought a few from Rich Z just as he was shutting the doors. This pair I thought would do alot of het proving for the male. Female is Amel motley het caramel and lavender. The male was sold as " Utlra ??? hard to tell with these". I assumed this meant either ultra or ultramel. There were no hets discussed. I was thrilled when the shipment arrived and this ultra male turned out to be motley as well, and stunning!!
I'll stop jabbering and allow the photos to do the talking, needless to say I'll need help identifying the morphs. Parents first and then some baby shots.

Seriously, nice looking batch of babies you got there. I hope they all eat for you. I suspect most will, as that line was normally pretty good at feeding right off the starting line.

Are those gray ones lavender? Forgive me, but I can not tell hatchling morphs apart unless they are in your face obvious.

They look a bit more like Ultra or Ultramel aneries to me, which would be more consistent with the known genes of the parents.

No expert, so please correct me.

That brown one looks like a caramel mot to me, but that shouldn't be possible if you're breeding amelxultra/ultramel. What's up with that? Also that lavenderish one should be ultra/ultramel lav right?

This might be a math fail, but wouldn't the male have to be an ultramel to produce butters? If he was ultra you couldn't make butters and if he was amel you couldn't make the grey guy.
To make butters he would also have to be het. caramel.
But then you toss in the chance of having golddusts in there.
Grey guy: if both parents were het anery, you still wouldn't get aneries. you'd get snows.
but if dad is het lav, this little guy could be some variation of lavender/ultramel lav.
If both are het lav, there's a possibility that the parents could produce opals.

Ah yes, Rich Z snakes are usually a melting pot of hets. It should be fun sorting out the ultras with ultramels, with the caramels, anerys, lavenders, etc LOL! Nice looking clutch but kinda glad its not me having to figure all that out

The male is definitely an ultramel and not an ultra.

I see an amel, a couple butters, some ultramels, a golddust or two and maybe something else. Get some pics after they all shed. Great clutch.

exactly right Kels88. It would appear both parents are het caramel and lavender...in real light the three "gray" snakes have a rather purplish hue... So the question is this- is the father ultra or ultramel? if hes ultramel then there should be opals and butters, if ultra then gold dust and ultramel lavenders...I've not seen an opal hatchling so wouldn't know. Two of the "grays" have dark eyes, and at least one of them has a ruby pupil. The third "gray" is a lighter shade of purple with red eyes.

So if he is Ultra who has seen a gold dust lavender to say what they look like? Are those that look like butters actually gold dusts? WHat about the red eyes? how would I distinguish amels from utramels (butters from gold dusts) if they all have red eyes?

If that isnt complicated enough how about if the father is ultramel and not ultra??
