What blonde chick?!
I'm a tapophile! So is my husband! Sounds pretty pervy doesn't it? Well, it's not, I swear! All it means is that we are both fascinated by cemeteries and spend a good deal of our time in the spring and summer in cemeteries taking pictures and cleaning them up. I thought I would share some of my photos with you all. This is only a few of the hundreds of photos I have taken. It's one of my favorite hobbies. One I'll never get bored of! I've had people ask if they can use my photos and that's absolutely fine if you'd like to! All I ask is please not to claim that you took them yourself. I should probably slap my name on them but I hate doing that! Anyway, either way, here they are. Enjoy!

Very cool photos! I would love to take pics in the local cemetery but I always feel like I'm doing something illegal or immoral...
 
Yeah, that cross pic is one of my favorites. I need to get it blown up and hung somewhere. And you have no idea how far my creepyness goes! LOL.

Taking pics in a cemetery isn't illegal nor immoral. Not at all. People would've never had these gigantic monuments made for their loved ones if they didn't want people looking at them. Ever see the headstones that look like large couches(if not I've got shots of those)? That's because families used to go and have picnics with their dearly departed family members and that gave them a place to rest while doing so. It's amazing how the attitude towards death has changed since the victorian times.

I have done this a few times myself, but really only have one photo I like from them. It is of an angel that was in the children's cemetary. I will have to see if I can find it to share with you.
 
Mindy, there is absolutely nothing wrong with us. We a southerners to the core, and are expected to have certain eccentricities. Tapophilia being one of the milder and more ubiquitous ones. :D ;)

P.S. You'd love the crypts in New Orleans at the St. Louis cemeteries, numbers 1, 2, and 3.
 
Oh I know I would love 'em! That's the whole reason I want to visit New Orleans! How sad is that? I'm willing to spend hundreds of dollars to travel just to see cemeteries! Oh and the houses in the Garden District.
 
Oh Min...those are wonderful!! I didn't know there was a name for it, but I absolutely love cemetaries as well. My friends and I used enjoy doing rubbings on the stones that were too weathered to read. Fascinating stuff. For me, cemetaries are probably one of the more peaceful places I go to clear my head. Thank you for sharing your works!
 
Great pictures! I love the broken one but it made me kinda sad. I always want to take pictures in cemeteries but never have time to. And I think if I tell people that's where I'm going they may want to lock me up, lol.
 
Mindy, If you get to a point in any genealogical research and want links to free available cemetery listings (of mostly rosters/lists of tombstones and inscriptions) in Louisiana, by parish, just let me know and I will dig it (the link) up for you.
I know Transylvania, LA is in East Carroll Parish (where the Annual Lake Providence Snake Rodeo is). I have a great grandmother from Oak Grove, in West Carroll parish,.....so we just might be related. (Both parishes are very rural and sparsely populated.)

I had pictures from St. Louis #1 or #2 on my reptilegeeks homepage for last Halloween, but can't seem to find them.

I'm going to New Orleans this weekend, so may take some pictures for you if weather is OK for lurking among the crypts and mausoleums. Which I love to do.
 
Ah, you're awesome! My family name in Louisiana is Girod so it's really hard determining who is my actual family and who isn't as I've heard that's a popular name. Could be wrong though!

DYK, fairly common in southern Louisiana.....not so common in north Louisiana, especally the Carroll parishes.
