Aaron, The "Pot smoking, sinner."

Agreed. But I think you and I come from a perspective of maximizing freedom for all adults, and so does Kathy. I take this seriously:
"An it harm none, do what thou wilt."
I figure it's not my business to judge harm for other presumably rational adults as long as they put no one else at risk of harm. So although I may try to talk someone out of drinking excessively, or smoking too much herb, as long as they stay where they are put while they are impaired, it's really not appropriate, or moral in my deities' eyes, to try to stop them by force.

And yeah, I am religious as anything, but my deities don't want me to jam what They tell me to do down anyone else's throat.

I bet Aaron would have thought a lot more about naming this thread if he had known it was going to become one of the historic mega-threads of cs.com.

^ Agreed :p

But I guess we just have different morals. I'm just glad no one has been throwing around insults or anything.

Vicky, it's not about morals. I don't want to impede on the lives of others. There are plenty of things I don't "like" (that I suppose one could say because of my "morals") that I wouldn't legislate on other people.

I just wanted to point out to all of you doubters: Actually, it's spoons that make Rosie O'Donnell fat.

EXACTLY!!

The real questions here are..Do you own yourself or does the government own you? Are you responsible for your own life, or is the government your parent that has to watch out for you every minute of your very restricted life?

Vicky appears to want to be owned by a larger entity, and have no control over her own life.

I can't live that way.

I couldn't agree with you more!

I do NOT need the government.... or anyone else for that matter to save me from myself!

As for smoking the flowers of a plant that grows from the ground or even drinking man made alcohol, I'll do it if I please and those who don't like it can mind their own business.

Laws such as NO DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE are fine and I respect those and follow them. I have no problem with following a law that says I can't drive impaired, however I have a HUGE problem with big brother telling me I can't smoke a joint in my own home. I'm 44 years old, gainfully employed and pay my taxes. Big brother can f-off if they don't approve!

BTW... I find it INCREDIBLY hypocritical that the lawmakers are some of the biggest law breakers themselves! What an egotistical power trip these people are on that they think they can pass laws that everyone else must follow but they themselves think they are exempt from!

Government officials need to be reigned in and the people need to take back the reigns of their power tripping and put them back in their place of REPRESENTING the people.... not RULING over them!

Too funny, mine was donuts and now it's Browning rifles! Besides the Rosie O'Donnell mention, I can't figure out a link!

I want to make it a law that the girls get an intervention and the guys get donuts and guns!

"I'm just glad no one has been throwing around insults or anything."

Attacking (or insulting) the PERSON instead of arguing about the IDEA is totally illogical AND counterproductive. Those who indulge in such emotional outbursts merely prove to me that they are not yet mature enough to debate IDEAS logically. Besides, if your goal is to convince others of the merits of your argument, how could insulting them possibly help persuade them, lol?

LOL.... as a gun loving woman with an arsenal of my own.... I must say.... you'd have to KILL ME DEAD before I'd stand for a misogynist law like that to be passed/enforced :D

I've got y'all beat, lol!

My ad is about how to save $80 on a dozen different superb wines! After I buy those, maybe I'll need that residential treatment, haha!

No good/fun/pertinent/naughty banners on my page.
I remember what we said one time to get a naughty banner,...but I'm not telling.

I've been following this thread all along and been tempted to post on a few occasions...
I really like a smoke of herb about once every month or so....
It's good for the soul IMO...
When your hobby becomes a habit you have a problem, but to kick back with a quart and a lid isn't a problem if you have planned to kick back and nothing is getting in the way of kicking back....
Bottom line.....
I'm not about to ask for your approval of my life style and I'm not about to comment on yours...
35yrs of living this way and it suits my life style...... I'm nearly 53 BTW...

It's also about the level of danger. A fractured ankle is bad, but it's not an every day thing. Most people skate their whole lives while only sustaining minor to moderate injuries. People who drink their whole lives, however, tend to create a lot of damage and harm to themselves and others.

I don't think all leaders can make better decisions than I can. Which is why all of this, my want of this law, my choice to not drink/smoke is based on what I feel. Me. Not some politician, not some pot smear campaign, it's based on conclusions that I have come to, that I would like to see enforced.

I have to disagree with you here. My grandfather drank his entire adult life, and by drank, I mean a lot. He never hurt anyone doing it, and never got hurt doing it. In fact, he was on his way to propose to my grandmother again when he was run off the road and drown in about 2 ft of water. He was in a soft top corvair, and could not get out of the vehicle. This was when my father was 9, so I never knew the man personally. But, I know he was a drunk, and never hurt anyone.

I don't think I've heard the term "lid," Mike, for 35 years or more. I think I forgot about it till now!
