Another Day, Another Desert

[Insert Witty Commentary]
I went back down to the Alabama hills today to play around in the desert for a couple hours. The wind was horrible, whipping through at 50-60mph. There weren’t any critters about, but it was a nice, warm, bright sunny day, so I walked around through the rocks, and took some pictures. Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

This next one isn’t the best picture, but it’s pretty cool how the snow is drifting off the peak. The wind is probably pushing 120mph up there:

And this one is a 3-exposure HDR image of the full moon taken earlier this evening:

Really, a boring picture. But I kind of like how the moon came out...You can almost see the depth... Would have been better with some clouds or a red sunset...

More great pics, Chris! I particularly love the mountain pic as I've always loved mountains... but the other - rock formation - pics were excellent as well.

Thanks for the comments, guys!

Lucky for me, I live where all of the famous wilderness and landscape photographers vacationed. Ansel Adams, Galen and Barbara Rowell, Jack Dikinga(maybe misspelled name?).

There are a ton of famous places to shoot out here...Alabama Hills, Mt. Whitney, Death Valley, Mono Lake, Yosemite Valley, Tuolomne Meadows...The furthest one away is Yosemite Valley, and the drive there takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, IMO.

My backyard is absolutely the perfect place for an aspiring wilderness photographer to learn how to take photos. Hopefully, the more I shoot, the better I'll get. And I can take the same shots a million different times at different times of day and year...

I hate projecting the "grass is greener on the other side" mentality, but if you keep posting pics like that, I may just have to sample some of that grass... :D

ONce again, very nice pics Chris. I like the little Phacelia flowers :) I have been waiting for those to bloom. Hey , I took a pic of the moon tonight as well, not as clear as yours though.. I am sure you will make a great photographer, you already do quite well..

Hey, just wanted to let you know I'm viewing these on a 32'' screen (although with a minimized browser) and they still look great! The mountain picture is cool, lots of detail and awesome color.

I shoot the largest jpg format my camera has. From the original file size, I can print 18X24 no trouble. I would shoot in RAW, but my slow computer can't handle the file sizes.

Thanks for the comments!

I love the flower pics! And you got one critter. Those rocks are really cool, are they volcanic?

They are granite. But yea...granite is volcanic in nature, in as much as it is formed underground from heat and pressure in volcanic areas.

But it's not volcanic in terms of a flow or spew...

Great photos again Chris. I particularly like the mountain with the snow blowing off it and the black and white rock formation.
