Calculator Screw Up??

I've been attempting to use the corn calculator at: http://www.reptilecalculator.com/corn-snake-morph-calculator/

But, it's been doing some weird things and I was hoping to gain some clarity as to whether I'm lacking knowledge or if it's just plain screwing up.

1. Lists a possible offspring of 2 identical hets as: "Butter Stripe HET Amel"
Butter contains the Amelanistic gene, how could a visual Amel be Het Amel?

2. Lists:

0.390625% Butter Motley
0.78125% Butter Motley HET Anerythristic
AND
0.78125% Amel Caramel Motley/Stripe
1.5625% Amel Caramel Motley/Stripe HET Anerythristic

In the same results. Is this just a technicality or is it mistakenly doubling somehow?

Putting in a Motley/Stripe het Amel, Anery, & Caramel for both parents btw.

New to corn genetics here, so I'm just wondering if I'm out of the loop here.

Thank you for any info/clarification.

2. Lists:
0.390625% Amel Caramel Stripe
0.78125% Amel Caramel Stripe HET Anerythristic
AND
0.390625% Butter Stripe
0.78125% Butter Stripe HET Amel

Why does it list Butter Stripe in two different locations? It also seems like the "HET Amel" when listed as butter should be "HET Anery" shouldn't it?

Just trying to figure out what's going on here.

What are the details of the parents you're inputting?

ETA: Sorry - just saw you're using Motley/Stripe het Amel, Anery, & Caramel for both.

Must admit I can't reproduce the problem using that combo. The Butter outcomes are listed as 1/64 Butter and 1/32 Butter het Anery. Maybe it's having a funny five minutes? I had trouble getting the Anery picklist to work on the first couple of tries.

I also don't like how that calculator handles motley and stripe. For example you can select motley or het. stripe, but you can't have it set for motley and het. stripe.

Yes. Unfortunately it's the only functional(or not lol) corn calculator I've been able to find. I've seen that "http://www.corncalc.com/" is supposed to be quite good, but I've never seen it up and running. :\

I guess all I can do is wait lol

I used the Genetics Wizard on my computer and got these results. The "het snow" in addition to "het amel, het anery" at the top is kind of weird, but the results are correct.

Thank you for sharing this with me. Do you believe these results to be complete and correct?

If so why are the Motleys PH Stripe, and nothing is PH Motley?

Do these genes act differently?

Thanks for any info, I'm relatively new to the details of corn genes.

Sorry guys - we didn't know corncalc was down! Ads will work on it as soon as he stops working ridiculous shifts at work. :)

Well I eagerly await when he does! I've been given the impression that this (Corncalc) is the best corn calculator and I'm excited to be able to feel like I'm working with some definitive numbers. Don't want to focus on getting a particular male because of false/inaccurate odds. :p

So thank you in advance!

pheonix is correct. It is because motley is dominant to stripe in phenotype. Both parents are phenotypical motleys but are both carrying one motley and one stripe gene. Just for that particular gene combo, breeding the pair will produce 1/4 Motley/Motley (homo motley), 2/4 Motley/Stripe and 1/4 Stripe/Stripe (homo stripe). Phenotypically, you will see 3/4 Motley and 1/4 stripe. Those 3/4 motleys, since you can't tell the genetics by phenotype (ie which ones are homo motley and which are motley/stripe), you call all of those Motley 66% het stripe (2/3 will be carrying the stripe gene while 1/3 will be homo motley).

Oh, in case you are still confused, motley and stripe are alleles...located at the same gene locus and can act as a pair of genes so 1 motley gene and 1 stripe gene are paired to express the recessive trait in the phenotype of the snake, but since motley is dominant to stripe, the snake will look like a motley and can be hurricane, Q-tipped, pin-stripes, whatever.
