Can i feed while in Shed?

Basically my snake just went blue forthe first time! YAY!!! Just wanted to ask. Can i feed her while she is in blue? I fed her last 6 days ago. so today is her feeding day. Just wanted to know before i attempt it.

The answer to that is, "Yes, but...." Some snakes eat in shed, others aren't interested. Of those who do eat, some will have no problem but others will regurge or have trouble getting their old skin off due to a feeding bulge. It's safer to wait until after the snake has shed. A few more days with no food won't cause any problem, while the potential for problems does exist if s/he's fed. I personally don't feed during a shed - except for the occasional instance when I don't notice a snake's in the early stages of shedding.

I'm one who is in the camp of, feed the snake. If they don't want to eat they won't.
Granted I only have a little over two years experience now, but I've never had an issue feeding my snakes in blue. Now that one has gotten older she seems to be consistent in not eatting when she's *deep* in blue but I've never had an regurge issues or shedding issues because of it.

i guess i will attempt to feed, and see in which category my little one is in. I'm prepared and wiling to face what comes. Thanks for the info!

I agree with this. Except for one, all the regurges my snakes have had have been when the snake was fed while blue. If I suspect a snake may be blue, I will check before thawing its meal. If one slips by, I will feed its meal to a back-up snake if possible. (I have Florida Kings that wait till everyone else has eaten before being fed, in case of refusals). If I would have to waste the mouse, and the snake has never had a regurge, I generally will feed the snake, but I don't like to.

I have never had any refusals or regurges from mine feeding during shed. That being said it was the times that they were clear up until the day before and I didn't want to waste the food. However, I believe your little beauty is quite young and I would hate to have to go through all of the troubles of post-regurge complications. I'd be in favor of waiting 'til post-shed. Besides I'm sure she'll have quite the voracious appetite by then ;)

I have never had a regurge or any shedding issues when feeding in blue. However I do have a couple that will refuse to eat. Now I dont even try to feed those snakes when there in blue. Everyone else still gets their meal.

she has accepted her meal as if nothing has changed :p So far no problems. I will keep you informed if things change.

Thanks for all the input this has gotten.
