i cant wait til i am on my own
living with my parents is getting old
if i had my own place then i would be able to get
the reticulated python thats on craigslist :'(

sadly i cannot now becuz we have 3 cats and 2 small dogs

and the snake is 11 and a half feet long already
so for now i will stick to corns, kings, milks, and red tails (yes i know they get big but my parents dont.... yet)

anyways anyone else on here have the same problem as me?

Yep about 30 years ago. Now I wish I was 17 and living at home again. :grin01:

Nope. A friend of mine once said "People without real problems will find something to complain about".

When I lived at home, I wasn't allowed ANY pets (not that I mind in the long run, I think I appreciate the ones I do have now more and waiting never killed anyone). You're already considered lucky.

So, move out then. It's pretty easy, I did when I was 17. I had money saved up from my job and a student loan, it worked out pretty good.

It is SOOOOOOOOOO much better now that I'm out of the house. Oh, and if you like the look of the retics, you need a Super Dwarf. :D

if i had the money i would move out.

i dont usually like retics, my favorite big snake is an albino burmese but the retic on craigslist is a tiger retic and i really like the colors. and for $150 who ever gets it is lucky.

i just cant believe 3 months ago i said i wont have anything besides corns, kings, and milks.
i didnt like bigger snakes... then i held a 7 foot red tail at my friends pet store and fell in love, a month later i got my colombian red tail who is now 4 feet 8 inches long and i cant wait til she gets bigger.
she is the sweetest snake i have and i like walking down to the pond at the end of my street where all the neighborhood kids hang out. i like teaching kids about snakes so they dont grow up to be scared of them (like most of their parents)

i know im already lucky that my parents let me have pets and then even more lucky to have snakes but i still will love the day i can have any snake i want no matter what size

I see too many burms and retics being offered out because they are too much snake for even the most ardent keeper....
I know your going to argue with me about this, so save your breath, I'm not listening.... LOL
Burms and retics and the rest of the big 5 plus a few others are better off in zoos or with specialists....
It's a pity that people can't get a demanding toy (like the babies they give to teenage girls) to show them it's not all beer and skittles.....
End of lecture..... LOL

what is there to argue about? if i ever do have a BIG snake i cant see myself breeding them and my favorite is as i said an albino burmese yes they should mostly be kept by zoos and specialists but there are some people that are responsible enough 2 have one or a few in some cases. but most people get them and dont realize they get HUGE before i got my red tail i got out a tape measure and was at first really shocked but then i decided since its just under 5 feet right now i could handle it as it slowly gets bigger

Your not seeing the big picture.... Everyone knows they get big and it's easy to run out a tape measure and look at the size....
Then there is living for 20 yrs with that animal and it's demands....
Like I said, I've seen the penny drop too many times on owners that had run out a tape measure a couple of years before.
Yesterday a guy, who3 yrs ago we had told wasn't ready for a burm, phoned up and asked if we wanted it.... The answer was no.....
two weeks ago a guy gave us a near full grown adult common Boa as his girlfriend was pregnant and she put her foot down and it had to go before she would move in.....
I see lots of these cases as the realisation kicks in over imagination....
If I were you I would get to know someone with a large Burm and hang out with them for a couple of years...... Or just long enough for the novelty to wear off and the chore of such an animal to set in.... Then decide if you need one...

It is SOOOOOOOOOO much better now that I'm out of the house. Oh, and if you like the look of the retics, you need a Super Dwarf. :D

Yes so true they are stunning I just cant decide what dwarf lol, less hassel just think about all the planning you need to do just to clean them out, and all that poo, no thank you.

I agree with Mike I adore burms and would love one, however I would not have the support from my partner I would need to properly care for and keep it, he doesnt do big snakes and doesnt trust them so I could not ever have one and it doesnt help that I'm only 5 foot so handling is a no go

You are wise, handling a snake larger than about 7 feet by onesself can be a risk. This means if one has to feed the snake, clean the enclosure, etc. to be on the safe side, those who live on their own have to invite someone over, and that means living with a stinky cage if someone else can't get over there right away.

I'm amazed at just how strong my adult ratsnake is now, he's only @ 5' and slender, so handling a bigger animal is out of the question for me (I'm just over 5' myself). I'll stick to admiring other people's burms etc through here!

I too agree with Mike. I think most people know they get big and long. But they DON'T know just HOW big and long these snakes truly get, add to that the strength of these snakes. I don't think most people should keep these snakes. But that's just my opinion.
Good luck Carly in whatever you decide to do though.

I like burms....from afar.....
I have never wanted one though.
Too big, too strong, and they poop like a horse.

My corns give me plenty of snakey goodness (they are more colorful than burms too), and if I want to handle something huge and gorgeous, my Florida King Maytag fits that bill nicely......

this wasnt about me getting big snakes so from now on everyone stay on topic or dont say anything
This is a forum. On here people discuss things. A reticulated python is considered a big snake by most of us. You stated you can't wait to leave home so you can get whatever snakes you want. So, a few of us aired our thoughts.
Of course you can get whatever snakes you want. But don't expect any threads on this forum to stay totally on-topic!

This looks like it was about you wanting to get a big snake, but was still living at home and is unable to at this time? Maybe I am reading it wrong, but that's what it looks like to me. So, I thought the responses pretty much were staying on topic

Burms, Retics, Rocks, 'condas, and even larger localitys of Boa are way to much snake for me to love. i would like a super dwarf retic at some point, but lagre snakes take alot of time and food to keep happy. My king rat will be my collection big girl. She will top out around 7-8 feet.

topic is anyone being held back from getting something they want because they r still living with parents. not about my new love for bigger snakes. and i cant even see myself getting anything bigger than red tails for atleast another 5 to 10 years. but anyways BACK ON TOPIC

One thing most people forget about with big snakes is the clean up :sidestep: , after a few personal encounters I prefer to leave that duty to others. I lucked out myself my parents let me purchase pretty much anything but with my own money that I earned by doing yard work for the neighbors or any side ventures.
