Daytona 2009

I think it should be broad, as to include other's that made an impact in Herpetoculture. Maybe something like this?

Following in the footsteps of the honorary Dr. Bechtel, we recognize (name) as an outstanding leader in the advancement of Herpetoculture as a whole.

or

Like the great Dr. Bechtel, we recognize (name) for their outstanding dedication and contributions made to the Herpetoculture community.

Thanks!

Glad we are getting some participation! After we get a few more suggestions, I will use them all to write up a couple that I think might work, and let everyone comment on, and tweak them.

If we can agree on it by tomorrow afternoon, I might be able to order it then. If not, I will still go and look, and order it next week. There is usually less than a week turnaround time.

I received the first two donations last night at our local herp society meeting...

one is a male vanilla ball python (I think a late '08) from Gulf Coast Reptiles, and the other is a baby male yellow belly ball python from Josh Hutto of Pt. Charlotte, Fl.

I didn't get to the trophy store before it closed, but hope to get there in the next 2 days.

As far as the speech goes, I'd be more than willing to make it. I just don't think I would be able to write it. I'm not good at speech writing... I'm more of a "WING IT" kind of person.

We might be able to get Joe to do it. I sort of talked to him about it and it sounds like something he would be good at doing.

And Kathy - those are some awesome prizes! Anyone donating prizes - see if they have any business cards we can put out for them as well.

I think I am going to need more buckets - Oh Nanci.....

How big are the treasure chests? If they are not too big, would you order 2 extra for our herp society, for our monthly raffle?

Are you making holes in the tops?
Yes, I was going to use the soldering iron and put holes in the tops for people to put their tickets in.

Kathy - they aren't very big at all and come a dozen at a time. I am sure we will have some extras we can pass on to you.

How about this?

The H. Bernard Bechtel Memorial Award for the
Advancement of Herpetoculture
Presented to Rich (or Richard?) Zuchowski
at the
Fourth Annual Daytona Corn Snake Dinner (Supper Club??)
August 22, 2009

Do we want to call it the first or fourth dinner - or supper, or supper club, like the shirts? We have had other dinenrs, but they were not organized and separate from other diners. If not, what DO we want to call it? Of course, it will be centered properly - I just approximated it, and even that is lost when it is posted. What else should we change?

PLEASE COMMENT - TIME IS RUNNING OUT!

I like it Kathy...
And I think it should be the 4th Annual Cornsnake Supper Club.
Vinny and I talked at length about changing the name as well as if it should be the 1st or 4th while working on the tshirts.

I know this is the first year we have had it this well organized, but we have gotten together the previous three years even if it was only for dinner. So ultimately we decided to go with "4th" and keep it Cornsnake Supper Club. We tossed around some other names - especially with how it has grown now to more than just dinner, but in the end, we thought this was still the most fitting for our group. Everything else we came up with either sounded too "stuffy" or (for lack of a better word) "corny".

Fixed. ;) LOL.
I can't remember, does it say first or fourth on the shirts? I'd go for what it says on the shirts.

Looks good.

I prefer focusing it on herpetoculture of cornsnakes since it is a cornsnake dinner but not sure how that should/could be worded. Plus, Dr. Bechtel had a large focus on cornsnakes.

Just my 2 cents.

Whoever we get to do the speech is going to need some background on Rich...like when he got started, why he got into cornsnakes etc...
He doesn't have an "about us" section on Serpenco so I am not sure how to find out this info? I don't know how much Kathy or someone here might be able to fill in for us. I don't mind writing a speech, or at least putting together an outline of some sort for someone if I can manage to dig up some info.

I don't think there' would be enough space on the blank award or plaque to have lengthy sentences.
capitalized letters are generally used on the awards I've seen over the years, \
and
the bigger the letters, the easier it is to read from a distance...
keeping in mind that this is something likely to be displayed for years to come
while I understanding "all caps" is considered "shouting" on the www, "all caps" carries a different connotation with regards to honoring an esteemed person.

MHO= you've done well.

A couple of notes on the preceeding post:
I dropped "THE" from being the first word on the award, because in transcending the past and present, I envision this award becomming an annual award. While this is the first one, there will be others. So in 2011, when the third one is being presented, there will by then be more than one, so the word "The" would have become untrue. While the receipient can go on to say "i won the first...", or "I won a..."
Every word on an award had to be typeset, and the more words per line, the smaller / less-readable each line becomes.
As a second and perhaps totally useless and inappropriate suggestion, but hay, I gotta be me...
What did Dr. Betchel's friends in the herpetology field call him? Bernard? Bernie? Reason I ask is my Dad's name is William, but his friends in the Ecology/native Plants/Environmental/musician (and other) realms know him as "Bill" .
