Diesel "The Misfit" My Pitbull

Can I ask what the benefits of cropping a dogs ears are? Is it a point to be considered for the breed standard? Just curious....

Maybe another thread would appropriate... actually, we've already discussed this a length on this board.

I just hate to see a picture thread turn into a debate.

Our vet tells us that they are easier to clean, and less likely to get ear infections, but other than that its for looks.

And here's another pic of him I took last night. This is how he helps in the snake room. He shreads my newspaper lol

It's perfectly appropriate to ask a question about the subject matter of this thread. I did not do it in an opposing, negative or subjective manner. So no, I don't think it's appropriate to start a whole new thread for one question which is definitely appropriate in the context of this thread.

Have you tried to clean out a dogs ears that have not been cropped? It's very simple, and should be part of every owners doggy health routine. Cropping the ears of a dog with lovely exposed and non hairy ear canals seems a bit ridiculous does it not? There has been no evidence whatsoever to suggest that cropping ears reduces the risk of infections. Ear hygiene and health maintenance is the correct way to prevent infection.

But I see that you state it's mainly for looks. And I just can't help the surging feelings of utter disappointment in the human race when I hear things like that.

I thought your puppy was a beautiful little thing with floppy ears in the first few pictures. What a wee darling.

Oh My Gosh!!!! There for a minute I almost passed out from all the horrible images that just raced before my eyes!! Geez Autumn, you trying to give me a heart attack?!?!? lmao:laugh01:

HAHAHAHA!!!!

You guys have got to meet my cat one day. He's all the fun of a puppy with wit and skill of a criminal master mind. Last night I found him inside a shelf on my snake rack. He pulled the tub out with his paw and climbed behind it to lay on the heat. So I'm putting little pegs so the tubs lock in to keep him from randomly freeing snakes.

I agree completely. I think mutilating a puppy for "looks" is just wrong. BUT, on the other hand, you do have an obviously well-loved dog with a forever home. And too few dogs are well loved with a forever home...so HUGE kudos for that! I'm sure ANY puppy would choose to suffer cropped ears to have such a wonderful, comfortable and pampered life!

Oh that's a bad Kitty!! I'd love to see him in person one day! I just wanna see what he feels like. His fur looks like velvet!

thanks Elle!!!!

A loving home forever home should go hand in hand with the promise of never inflicting unnecessary pain or suffering upon ones pet....

Onyx feels like microfiber! It's unreal almost like petting something so soft you can barely feel it.

As an side; I know we all have our opinions but can we not simply respect the OP's wishes to not turn this into a debate.

Like I said before to each their own. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and now that you've said yours can we let it go. I just posted these pics of my baby for people to see, not to be judged or put down.

He almost looks like a great dane in that pic, only with not a great dane crop. Look at the length of his legs!!

Nope, ear cropping is not the subject matter of this thread nor was it ever. It was like, "Hey, look at my cute puppy."

Sorry, SS... I'm really sorry. Picture thread became soapbox thread really quickly, huh?

It's insulting that anyone dare imply you are an unfit owner because of cropping his ears. My next dog will cropped, so I can be in the unfit owner club with you too. ;)

Nobody implied she was an unfit owner. I only stated that I thought ear cropping in general was unnecessary, painful and just ridiculous! Based on the justifications for it. To which the OP reptiled "it's for looks". Says it all really....

Emily, perhaps you should think about WHY you are going to crop your next dogs ears carefully. It is worth it? Can you justify it?....

Done and done. Yes it is. Breeder crops the ears, so I don't actually have choice BUT... I would do it if he wasn't going to.

Justify it? Don't have to. Don't feel any need to whatsoever.

OK people, I promise I'll never make the same mistake by starting a picture thread again just so people can come out of the wood works to give their negative opinions. It would have been different if I started this thread and asked for "your opinion" on ear cropping, but I did not ask. I just wanted to show my new baby to my friends on CS.

So please let this debate go and continue this thread as it was meant to be.

Like someone said earlier, there is already a thread up about ear cropping. Go vent there where its meant to be done and please leave this one alone. It would be greatly appreciated.

Does the breeder get a qualified vet to crop the ears and follow the "procedure" properly? Or does this breeder just do it his or her self? If so, I would seriously reconsider buying your next dog from a butcher.

And as a note, I REALLY don't appreciate being told what to write on a public forum, where it is custom for people to express their views and opinions on certain topics. I have been polite enough not to call YOU out. Merely express my opinion about the procedure in general. I have not once called you a derogatory term for what you chose to do to your dog. Things get side tracked CONSTANTLY. And it only ever seems to get pointed out when someone can't handle the diversions.
