Ernie Caldwell Diaries.....

I'll keep my peepers.....

peeled for ya Janine. I've never seen them either but the crews who arrive at dawn have seen both panther and coyote.

An update....

Things are very busy at the site and I missed a Cottonmouth and a 4+ Yellow Rat.

This is very funny....

They just completed a medigation area. They removed muck from a swampy area, redirected the water, put some nice fresh material there and replanted with some beautiful aquatic plants, and allow the water to return. It's only 5-6 inched deep and serves as kind of a filter for the flow to the creek. The area is about the size of your standard mall, parking lot included. A company called Earth Balance spent a week and a half in 90 degree temps placing/planting these plants. It was an outstanding job. was one of the most beautiful landscapes I'd ever seen.....until the cows discovered it.

Not of that area....

You got before and after pics??? Would love to see what "was". :)

but they are finishing a second one. I'll take some pics.

Three Bald Eagles portraying what I think was a breeding ritual. Two fought or mocked fought while the third, I'm assuming the female, sat on a powerline and watched.

Yesterday, I was called to a small pond, very small pond. I was told there were snakes chasing frogs. The Super says and I quote, "They are working together check it out. One is an Indigo and the other is a Garter I think." Of course one was a Racer. The other was a beautiful large Blue-Striped Garter. About two and a half ft. Of course they weren't working together but it seemed that way. One was on one side and the one on the other. So they were chasing frogs toward each other. They each had a frog or two in them so I left them alone, no handling.

BTW my cell phone camera is on the fritz. It will be hit and miss with pics; depending on when the wife allows me to take the camera.

Job is in hurry up mode.....

Contractor is trying to get the job done fast.....they need the money.

I got a new phone yesterday so I'll be able to take pics of the stuff we've been missing. But I did take the camera the other day and got some good pics.....
Some habitat from the Pinetree phase of the project where the Blue-striped Garter came from......

Found some tracks.....

Coyotes and pups! I'd love to see those tracks if you do get the chance to get a picture of them.

by the creek. You could both the adult and the pups.
The stones I included because I'm impressed by the number of them in such a big pile. They'll be used for the creek.
And some of the best looking cattle I've ever seen reside here.....

Can't function this morning....

Meant you could "see" and with cheaper plants.....

I was watching them install a storm structure when the workers came pouring out of it screaming. Using my powers of deduction I picked up my hook and took a look. Sure enough, a snake had made structure S-301 a home. I took the ladder down and was pleasantly surprised. A snake you don't see often. A Striped Crayfish Snake. Increasingly rare and especially the size of this girl. I see them at an avereage of 13 inches. Well the record according to my field guide is 25 and a quarter. She is 20 inches. I relocated her to the creek where I know there are plenty of crayfish.

Nice find Craig! Of course you have a pillowcase in your truck, we're weird that way.
The only Regina we have here are Queen snakes, also nice, but I've only found a few around here in several years.

Great updates, thanks for the coyote tracks! I know in some areas they are a pest species, but just like red foxes over here I have a sneaking regard for animals that find a way to hang on as we encroach on wild areas. I saw a big beautiful dog fox in the hospital grounds this week.

Here is another nice find.....

One I haven't seen in years.....

That hoggie is just so stinking cute!!! I'd be so tempted to keep it, but it'd probably be a PITB to get onto rodents. That softshell is pretty cute, too!

Warming up in Florida.....

Yesterday I rescued a huge snapper from another redneck Bar-B-Q. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how to get them off the Droid. I E-mailed em earlier today to myself but they haven't arrived yet. :awcrap:

Of course, that phone is like Chinese rythmitic to me.:bounce:

Finally.....

a second attempt was succesful.....
This was a big snapper. He was on the embankment so I chased him back down to the water and into the brand new wildlife crossing. Good thing to, behind me was a convoy of fellers who eat any turtle they can.....
