This snake....

has an interestnig story. I was across the street just begining lunch when the county rep calls me to identify this snake. He is ready to shut down the site cause he knows it is an Indigo. To his credit that is good. Florida law says you must stop all production until the Indigo is out of harms way. No one may "aid" the Indigo in exiting either. It must be left alone to go on its way.
Anyway the Racer gene pool is outstanding at EC. All have been great specimans. But this one took the prize. The guy was well over four feet, and thick. One of the healthiest racers I've ever seen. Deep black, white above the chin, brownish face. I was tempted to keep him.

Great thread, alot of snakes I haven't seen in a while, like the corals and the ribbon snake. I might of overlooked it but I'm surprised y'all haven't ran across any rattlers, they always seem to come out when you got loaders running.

I know it Butch.....

tons of swamp, pine and oak. No Pygmies nor Diamondbacks yet.

Strange how these snakes run in two.....

A day after the last post I found another Ribbon crossing the road.

I named this snake Speed Racer. Two reasons. He was a devil to catch and he rode around with me for 45 minutes while I took test. Then I found a nice flatwoods pond fulof frogs to turn him lose.

Last two days....

The afternoon storms are back.....

Turned the corner to Pinetree Blvd and noticed some serious dirt just a flyin. This guy probably moved due to rain and a flooded hole. So he decided to take residence just 10ft behind the sidewalk. I alerted the county rep who alerted the contractor. I did this quickly cause some of the lads of the "red" persuasion eat Gophers. That area is now off limits to traffic and people until a licensed removal person can do the removin.

Recieved a call yesterday.....

but arrived to late to catch what was describes to me to be a coachwhip....
Gopher has been documented and relocators called.
This morning right off the bat I get a call about another Gopher. It was not. This grand old lady Florida Box. Shell in bad shape. You can see where some of this save has pooled up, holes. Apparently teeth marks probably from a coyote. Sorry for the bad pics I'll try to get better ones later for suggestions on some cures. Plan now is to get calcium in her and use the save I use on my wood turtle, then release.
After bagging her, went up the road and caught my daily 4ft racer.

Wow! Sad I missed this thread when it was first started. The pics are all incredible. I really liked the nice, clean, coyote prints posted in the beginning. Too bad no kitty prints. :/ Have you managed to get a glimpse of the panther yet?
And that hoggie! Hilarious and gorgeous beastie. :D

No panther for me.....

When the job first began last June there was a DOR panther on I-4 just outside the site. Others have seen them, I suspect they have moved on for now.

Next time I get a thick one (make up your own jokes there Robbie) over four feet I'll bring him to ya.

Like I said... One that DOESN'T want to eat your face! I love racers. They're such pretty snakes! I will admit, though, I'd feel bad about taking an adult. One still with it's juvie colors that wants to eat me is fine. :p

Good day today.....

Was at the bridge for a concrete pour when the Denson went nuts! They called me over to find a large.....large Ribbon snake. After the MIL and nurse leave, I'll take a few pics. A few minutes later a large racer scared them to death crossing the creek.

First thing this morning a kid in a pan hit this truck. Backed into it, moved it 32ft. before they could stop him...

Luckily....

OUCH!!!! Wonder how the driver felt being pushed like that....

Can't wait for the other pics! :)

Barry was not in his truck. He actually pushed the truck into the white car you can see in the background. The back left tire hit the curb while he was pushing....bent the frame about 5 inches. For those who may not know...a pan, or Earthmover, weighs about 90,000lbs.
