Yesterday Connie and I were taking a walk to take a look at our temporary pond that forms whenever it rains enough. I kept hearing a clunking noise, kind of like banging two coconuts together, and noticed some movement at the edge of the pond. We found two box turtles engaging in some sort of combat, evidently, as they were face to face and would ram towards each other. They were also taking bites at each other, and one of them had blood on his face and the other's shell was obviously chewed up. I know nature really needs to take it's course, but we separated the two idiots before one of them got really hurt.
Not sure why, but lately we only see box turtles when there is standing water in the pond. One year we saw three of them just floating around in the water like they were enjoying a swim.
