Found this guy today in my yard. Figured I would bust out the old 50D and get a few pics of him before he went on his way.

Yesterday Connie and I were taking a walk to take a look at our temporary pond that forms whenever it rains enough. I kept hearing a clunking noise, kind of like banging two coconuts together, and noticed some movement at the edge of the pond. We found two box turtles engaging in some sort of combat, evidently, as they were face to face and would ram towards each other. They were also taking bites at each other, and one of them had blood on his face and the other's shell was obviously chewed up. I know nature really needs to take it's course, but we separated the two idiots before one of them got really hurt.

Not sure why, but lately we only see box turtles when there is standing water in the pond. One year we saw three of them just floating around in the water like they were enjoying a swim.

There's still a population of Easterns around Lake Marburg up here in Hanover PA, and once in awhile we cross paths with one on a trail. Favorite reptile...period :)

Just for fun, here's a West Virginian Eastern to compare to your Florida's

Great pics Joe. Nice to compare Florida's vs the Eastern's up here :*)

Beautiful, that's an outstanding example :) MD boxies (at least around the Baltimore area) are orange too...

Since everyone is sharing, I thought I'd share this pic of one I rescued (he was upside down on the road) in No. VA several years ago:

(hopefully I remembered how to post pics)
