For those who know about guns...

I am constantly buying and selling guns. The ones I got from my dad or granddad will never go away but everything else is fair game for change. I have had my Redhawk for over 20 years so besides the hand-me-downs it is my longest with the same gun. I just really like that gun. I have had my Beretta 92 for about 10 years. It just has a real good feel in my hands. I like my Ruger MarkIII but just don't shoot it much so it may go soon. Been thinking about a Beretta Bobcat to replace it. It would also make a good backup gun because of size not caliber.

Someday I will have a Barrett just tough to justify the $10,000 right now.

I've got a Barrett Model 95 that I would consider selling. Considerably less than $10,000. I bought it used a long while back. Yanked off the inappropriate scope the original owner had put on it (only had about 2 inches of eye relief, so I think I know why he decided to sell it.), and put on a highend Nightforce scope. I've never fired it to even sight it in. I already sold my model M82A1, and still have a model 99 that I will likely keep. Need to have something around here to shoot up all that .50BMG ammo I have, someday. But I really haven't had much interest in shooting for a long while now, even though I can shoot right on my own property...

It's more fun to shoot competitively. Not so much fun to go shoot targets unless it's something new.

I have always eyed the 82A1. Is the 95 the bullpup version bolt action? or full length version bolt?

My hold up is selling a couple houses. In today's market that is proving to be VERY difficult to say the least.

Yes, the 95 is a bolt action rifle with a 5 round magazine. Actually I believe all of the Barrett 50 cals are bullpup designs. But I didn't realize they had different bolt styles to them.

The 95 is the one sitting in front of the group below. Sorry, it doesn't show the bolt....

When I shoot Glocks, I feel like I'm holding a block of wood. I find the ergonomics of the Springfield XD/XDM and S&W M&P series guns far superior to that of a Glock.

Personal preference though.

Agree...I love my Springfield 45 XD...wouldn't trade it in for anything. Not exactly a carry weapon but it goes with me when I'm in the wilds and have a pack. For conceal carry I have either a .38 or SigSauer p.238. That Glock that Rich discusses may have to be on my list of new guns to get. ;)

I guess I like guns that I can understand; that I can take apart and put back together. It's not "natural" for me yet, so I like the really simple ones! I think that's one of the major factors in choosing a new gun.

I'm relatively new to taking apart/cleaning my own firearms (my dad took care of that when i was younger), but I am trying to learn more. That's one of the reason why I'm going to build an AR instead of buying one. It may cost a little more, but I'll have exactly what I want and know everything about it.

I was never into hand guns until I met and married my husband. I grew up hunting but like I said it was either a 30.06 or a lil .410.

My husband made me learn how to take apart, clean and put the gun back together before he even taught me how to shoot. When we go shooting now, my favorite gun is the Smith and Wesson 686!

Ok I didn't know much about the other models. I was thinking of this one. It is the M107 but it looks like a semi not bolt.

Yes, that is a semi auto, and very similar to the M82A1 that I used to have. The magazines hold 10 rounds. By design, with the reciprocating barrel, it will be inherently less accurate than a fixed barrel rifle.

 Wonder how his head felt!?!? lol

Let a friend shoot my .270 back in the day. It was his first time firing anything bigger than a .22. I had him all setup(I thought, partly my fault) and took a peek down range through the spotter scope. About the time I look back towards him he squeezed a round off. Unfortunately before I could tell him leaning forward to about 1/4" of relief would not be good. I found out afterwards he had never fired a scoped rifle. He wears a 1 inch long perfectly arched scar that to this day is nicknamed Leupold.

Oh, haha. I thought it might be (I have a Leupold on my Tikka .204), but I thought maybe there was a story behind that name beyond what you'd said. :)

Actually the gun I carry is a Glock model 33. I tend to have a preference for any gun that shots the .357Sig cartridge... At the time, this was the smallest, lightest package I could find that carried the most pop per ounce.

I just completely forget I even have it on me most of the time, which is just what you want with a carry gun. Funny thing is that I don't usually notice it on me, but I certainly do notice it NOT being on me...

Rich, I have always had handguns from Beretta, Sig, and Ruger with an odd Springfield or S&W thrown in but never owned a Glock. Is there something specific that drew you to the Glock? size? form? weight? trigger safety?

Honestly, I had a model 17 Glock many years ago, and just didn't care for it at all. Wound up trading it off at a gun shot for a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm (yeah, who got the better end of THAT deal! ). Anyway, when I was looking for a new carry gun I was specifically looking for something in .357Sig and as small of a package as possible. The ONLY gun that even came close to fitting the bill was the Glock model 33. So I reluctantly bought it, thinking I was going to hate the thing. But honestly, I took it down to where I have a little shooting area on my property and sandbagged some shots at a target. I was pretty surprised at how accurate that little gun was. Trigger pull was much better than I remember from that model 17, and all in all, I was pretty impressed with the gun. Now I did modify is slightly by putting a pinky extension on the magazines. I have small hands, and even with my hands, my pinky finger had nothing to hold onto as small as the grip is. But with that extension, it's just about perfect now.

One thing that Glocks are well known for is reliability. Well, as long as you don't use bare lead nosed bullets, anyway. So with the small package, light weight, excellent round (the .357Sig is the autoloading equivalent, ballistically, of the .357 Magnum cartridge), accurate shooting, and reliability, this was pretty much exactly what I wanted. If I somehow lost this gun, I would buy another tomorrow.
Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger, so to speak, on the Glock purchase. I bought a Glock 27. It's the compact .40 S&W.

Yes! I believe that gun is the same size as the model 33. As I mentioned before, you might want to look into that pinky finger extension that you can get for the magazines. It makes a big difference in how securely the gun feels in your hand.

BTW, the .357Sig cartridge is a .40S&W case necked down to accept a 9mm sized projectile.

Yes. I was also told by a friend that a simple barrel change will convert a 33 to a 27 and vice versa.
