Gargoyle gecko information

What is the average weight for a year and a half old female garg? I know the females grow slower then the males and the breeder said that my girl has been growing very slow. She was sick for a time but is now healthy. She weighs 12 grams. That seems very tiny to me.

That is pretty small for one that age. But I know (that cresties anyways) can grow at all different speeds, I've heard of some otherwise perfectly healthy seeming ones making it to a year or a year and a half only weighing around 5 to 8 grams. There just seem to be a few that just grow really really slowly.

Thank you. The breeder said she eats good just has grown slow. I know she was under a vets care for a bit but the vet has cleared her now. The breeder said she had a bad experience with butterworms, she got sick from them and was under vet care because of it. She no longer gets the butterworms. (I had to look them up, had no idea what they were LOL ).

I'm interested in gargoyles too. I have a couple of questions: 1) do they jump like cresties do? and 2) What does "fired" mean? Thanks. :D

Yes they jump. I can send mine to you so you can observe it for yourself!! Really, they are easily handleable if you just let them walk from hand to hand- don't expect them to sit there.

I'm already used to that with my snakes. They rarely sit still. How do you keep them from jumping and hurting themselves? It sounds like you start to know when they're about to do it. How far do they jump?

Nanci, I had heard that the gargoyles calm down as they mature and tend to grow out of the jumpy stage, is that true? I was told that cresties tend to stay in that jumpy mode?

Mine still jumps if she feels like it, but I generally keep her busy enough that she doesn't get the chance. And she's out ever two or three days to be fed, so she gets handled plenty. She's only bit me the one time- and that trained me to never wipe her mouth with my finger ever again!!

Do you feed the same crestie diet? The breeder I'm getting Lily from says if you try and cup her in your hands she will take a snap at you. She will snap if you try and restrain her.

Cresteds tend to calm down and jump less as they get older, I'd imagine that gargs are similar. Cresteds generally handle being held well but I have heard that gargs are generally even better with being held. However both have individuals that are calmer or flightier than the norm.

On a side note, after this coming Sat. my knowledge of gargoyles will no longer be theoretical! Broke down and bought a baby from a breeder in Utah, will be meeting up with her on Sat. to pick it up. Can't wait!

That's awesome! I can't wait to see lots of pics! Sadly our weather has still been very cold and sleet/snowy so shipping isn't happening at this point. Which totally sucks because I have a bloodred baby from Nanci and my garg that I'm waiting to have shipped.....Ohio weather sucks! LOL

What a cutie! It is so hard not to resist their adorable little faces. I look at the adds and have seens so that I have been very tempted but I would have to set up a total seperate viv for it so I have not given in to the temptation. I have the snake rack in my bedroom away from my hell cat so my gargoyles viv will be going in there to so I'm not sure I want to take up more room with another viv.

I don't know. Maybe a crestie is the way to go.... The sight of blood in Nanci's photo made me queasy. :D

Just don't wipe it's mouth. LOL We have snakes and they have the ability to draw blood as adults.....
