Howdy folks! After all the hoo-ha, and angriness in another thread, I thought I would start a positive home/yard invasion snake experience thread.
Please tell us the stories of your encounters.
Here's mine:
I moved to South Carolina last year, into a very, shall we say - humble, abode. I wasn't there a week, when I went into the bathroom (where my snakes are), not turning on the light becasue it was day time and I tend towards being bat-like about lights, and notice on the bathroom rug in front of my bathtub the nice long shadow of a snake. I thought, "Oh no, my anery motley girl escaped." I turned on the light. It was not my snake! On the rug, stretched out and still, was a juvenile yellow rat snake. They call them chicken snakes around these parts. So I scooped her up and put her in a spare tank where I stored paper towel rolls. She didn't try to bite, just wiggled a bit. The next day I thawed her a good size mouse to eat, which she relished. Several days later I released her in the woods right behind the place. (I've moved since then.) I kinda wished I kept her, but I thought releasing her was the best thing to do. Anyway, THAT was a nice snake encounter. I thought, "South Carolina is welcoming me to the neighborhood."
Cheers.
