heating

Heat lamps can dry out the air in a viv very badly, and are more apt to start a fire in your home.
Plus snakes need belly heat to digest, not heat from above.

I have been a member of this site since 2005 and one thing I have noticed is that when a broken-hearted newbie posts about their baby dying, usually it is a snake purchased from a pet shop and heated with a heat lamp. Coincidence?? I don't know but I see many of the deaths are really similar.

my snake is fine with the heat lamp he'll be fine if something does go wrong i will post that your right ok

dude its like 30g and i feel the side of the tank and move my hand from the warm side to the cool side and it gets colder as i move along

You know... we are trying to help you so that something doesn't go wrong. We want whats best for the snakes... most of us could care less about the owners.

im making money so i should be able to afford it soon anyway do you think an adult corn can live in a 5g tank with no heat

yea but i dont hav the money i used to that snake robbed me

Wth does that mean?? You were not robbed by a snake, sounds more like you impulsively took on an animal you are not prepared to properly care for.

IT NEEDS A UTH!!!!!!!

What part of that don't you understand?

There's just no point trying to get sense into the OP. I am fairly new to keeping snakes myself and this forum and its members is AMAZING! They have helped me so much and given so much advice!

I just feel sorry for your snake dude. If you can't care for it properly and are not willing to get the right equipment and fork out a little money - find it a better home ASAP.

This might sound harsh but its the sad truth.

im not arguing i agree but as someone said that uth is better in one of my other threads because snakes dont directly bask the hide i hav for him on the warm side absorbs heat for at night and it reflects heat where he curls up so i have found no need to get a uth

sry, but i just dont understand, it reflects heat and absorbs heat in nother thread u say temp reader thingy is above hide but ur sanke doesnt sleep their so how do you no what the temp is where he sleeps
dus it reflect or absorb and
ur friend shuld get uth for better health of snake

I digress annoying as this may all may be you could read advice being given. Yes there are different ways to heat a viv. If you ask for advice at least try to understand said advice as the optimum. While you have had your snake for a few months some on this forum have made cornsnakes their life, many of us do our best to learn and strive for the optimum. We listen and we learn and we give advice, we try to help, that is all we can do.

Slow your roll!

Hate to say it, but if you can't afford to properly care for your snake, then maybe you shouldn't have it.

I tried reppin you for this, but it wouldn't let me! I've done it too much xD
Kudos to this post. I say this all the time.

To the OP. If you can't afford to provide an animal with the proper care that it needs, you probably shouldn't have it.
If your snake feels warm to you, then it is in dire need of a proper heat source that won't cook it.
Stop being so defensive. Everyone has been new at one point. You can swallow you pride, admit that some of your basic husbandry is wrong, and work on fixing it as soon as you can. If I were you, I'd honestly shut the light off until you get something to regulate it. Feeling the temperature with your hand is NOT acceptable. If I were to go put my hand in my boa's cage and put my hand right on top of the hot spot that is 90 degrees, I would swear that it wasn't on. That's 5 degrees hotter than my corns' cages. Thankfully, I have a digital thermometer in all my cages that tells me that all is running just fine.

hey bonkers i cant explain how wrong you are the lamp is fine 83 on warm side 73 in cool side he's a healthy snake he is active at night nothing wrong with him so i dont hav to get a uth and set it up exactly like you say he's fine the way he is and you people cant exept that and its really annoying
