I got a job in California and I need lots of advice!! O_O

I came across with all my snakes from West coast to East. I put all the snakes in tubs that just fit them with a little extra room and a padding of aspen shavings. At night in the hotels I would place a water bowl in there for them and take it out each day. You could rent a small trailer to put all the cages and such in or do as Kathy suggests and put a car carrier on top or one of those pods that you can rent from U-haul to put it in.

Bree, I i work for an air freight company, so I'd have to say yes, it is possible to ship large packages across the country ;*).

I would recommend a small U-Haul hitched to your car. That way, you'll have plenty of space to put everything without having your car jammed full of stuff.

Congrats on the move

Dont use a car carrier on top of your car no matter how you pack them they will get cooked,a trailer might work but you would have to pack them properly and check them often to make sure they arent getting to hot we have been getting really hot weather as you probably already know

DEFINITELY DO NOT put any live animals on top of, or behind, your car. I meant to put the snake in a cooler INSIDE your car, and then to put the empty cage (or pack it full of light weight stuff like clothes) on top of, or on the Hitch Haul, outside your car. If you use the outside area to pack bulky, non living stuff, it will give you more room inside your car for temperature sensitive stuff.

BTW, we just rented a Prius and drove from Phoenix to Chicago and back for the show there. We put ALL of our stuff to sell at the show inside the car. It was pretty cramped, but it was amazing how much stuff you can get into a car with careful packing. And we did not have any roof top carrier or Hitch Haul, etc. We would have been pretty comfortable with one of those added items.

That's what I meant too! I did not mean to put the snakes in the carrier. I carried them in the vehicle with me.....

I looked up trailer rentals and they're like 400+ dollars. Shipping would be 200+ dollars just for the boa cage. I know I can build both my snake rack and boa cage for less than that.

If your car can pull a small trailer, then you should really consider a Hitch Haul (there are other brand names, too - Google for them). They usually cost less than $100, although you still need a hitch on your car. My brother has one, and it is really easy to put on and take off. The great thing is that it will belong to you, so you can use it again in the future instead of just renting. And being mostly a flat panel (maybe with short sides), it should be easy to store, too. It won't hold as much as a trailer, but you should be able to get a couple of good sized cages on it.
