I Hatched a Fire Stripe!..... I think.

Check out this little guy that hatched this afternoon! He was from an amel het diffused & stripe bred to a bloodred stripe het amel. I was hoping for a fire stripe, and I think that's what he is.... with his patternless sides and pale head. What do you all think?

He is gorgeous and amazing and I think you have to keep him!!
But, the only way to know 100% for sure is to test breed him in a few years. There is only a 50% chance he is a fire stripe, even though he sure looks like one.

Thank you! Yes, I'm definitely planning to keep him and will test breed him in couple years to confirm that he is actually a fire stripe.

he definitely has a different look than a regular amel stripe, but i don't personally know how much the het blood would affect his appearance. any striped sibs from this clutch?

beautiful little guy btw! congrats!

I would say an amel vanishing stripe. But could be a fire...need to see a few sheds down the road. And a good eye shot would help.

Thanks! Nope, he was the only striped one in a clutch of five. The others were three diffused and one normal. I'm hoping to have some half siblings from his dad (the blood stripe het amel) bred to a hypo blood het amel, anery & stripe female. Those eggs are about to be laid so, it will be at least a couple of months before I may have any fire stripe half-siblings to compare him to. Hopefully there will be some in that clutch.....

Im no expert by a Loooong shot....but this snake looks like it could be anyone of the above mentioned "morphs". thats my 2 cents worth! :)
The head pattern Screams Diffusion/Bloodred....The eyes say amel with a partial stripe then fades to cubed then to vanishing....I think your snake is suffering from an identity crisis. He/she is a definite keeper regardless. Congrats on this hatchling!!!

Thanks! Hector, his mom is the amel het blood stripe I got from you. To my knowledge, she isn't het hypo, is she? His dad will be will be tested for hypo with an upcoming clutch. He just hatched today and will probably look a little different after he has his first shed. I'm very anxious to see how this guy will end up looking.

I'm seeing lateral striping in the neck area, for a couple of inches. The head looks diffused-ish.

But Hector (and smallet's 'vanishing' theory) may be right about the hypo, in that (IMHO) even an amel stripe het diffused....that is hypo, would thereby have a posteriorly fading/disappearing pattern.

I would LOVE for it to be a fire stripe for you, though, Wendy. Lucky you!!!

Ahhh..sorry you threw me off with your first statemet about the parents:)..as far as I know, she's not het hypo. However, she was bred to my fire striped het hypo last season if that helps...
