I was contacted a few months ago about this, and couldn't say anything till now.
I'm now a legitimately published photographer!

A Japanese publisher, SoftBank Creative, just released a book "Extremely Poisonous Animals 50" (isbn 978-4-7973-4673-2)

My shot begins the description for Tityus serrulatus, listed as the 29th most poisonous animal in the book...

Congratulations, Isaac~!!

Jeff, I read and write Japanese, so I can tell you what it says.. :)

First, name of the Scorpion, then the discription, (something) widespread in Brazil, strong life span and poison(same as venomus in Japanese), then the photo, Edit= underneath the photo, the name of the Scorpio and the photographer's name- right after Isaac Miller's name, it says MR. or Sir in respect then the origin-South America, type of poison-nuro(nerve), size (of the scorpion) about 3.5cm, and the last one is how much of the venom will kill ya~!!-(LD50=0.43mg/kg)

So off of the title, it suggests that the book is about the most scarliest 50 poisonus or venomus animals other than Cobras or trantulas(sp?)

Looks interesting, so I just have to ask my brother who is living in Japan to get me a copy and send it to me... Can I mail it to you, Isaac, so I can get your autograph on that page?? :)

Cheers,
Rebecca

You did a WHOLE lot better than I did! I had assumed the word after my name was actually a copywrite, as I had seen it on a few other pictures in the book. The book itself is "Extremely Poisonous 50" and does not exclude Cobras or Tarantulas (Tarantulas, naturally, are only ranked at #50, and have never caused a human death). Its kinda fun to look through, even not knowing a single bit of Japanese. There is plenty of English text to identify the animals as there just isn't appropriate (i'm assuming) translations in Japanese. Sadly there wasn't much for Latin names which would have served me better. I was VERY surprised with the top 5. What I thought would rank up in #1 wasn't even close, and I hadn't even heard of the #1 that was listed (no, its not a reptile).

Rebecca, if you get the book, I'd love to find out by what LD50 method they used to rate these animals. Some of the LD50 ratings were not the same as I was familiar with, which also points to the problems with LD50 ratings.

If you do get a copy of the book, I'd love to autograph my page for you!

Can you autograph it "Tom Waits?" I kid, that thread title is fantastic; I love "Tap." And the book seems fascinating. Will it be released in the English language? And lastly, if only for a Christmas present -what are the "deadliest/ranked lower than you'd think" in common vernacular? Thanks!
