Lav-Albino Cali King

Kal's an '05 Cali that I bought on impulse from a pet store last year. He was well-behaved today, exhibiting none of the musking, flailing, or biting that can be expected from him. I have no idea how much he weighs, but he was looking a little chunky a few months ago, so I cut him back. Still, I doubt he's much over 300g. I don't think he's going to be a big snake.

I'd be lying if I said that I'm happy with how his coloration has gone from purple to very light lavender. I think he's still a fine looking king, but I really liked his juvie coloration. :(

Well i'm sorry to hear you a disappointed with the coloring - but I think he's gorgeous! I'm so jealous! The yellow is soooo pretty!

I wish my '05 lav-albino Cali was that big. She refuses to put on weight. I don't think she's over 100 grams. She's still purple, but in time I'm sure that will change. Your big baby there is gorgeous!

I know exactly what you mean! However, you can't take nothing from that bad boy.

If he really bothers you, he could visit Oregon  susan
I'm sure he'd love to; but he's allergic to conifers. :nope: :grin01:

Thanks. :) I like his yellow too-- it's more lemony than the yellow you see in corns and rat snakes.

Thank you! But you know, I'm just guessing at his age. You don't actually think the pet store owner or staff would know anything about their stock, do you? :grin01: He was 76g when I bought him in August 2006, so my guess was based on that alone. His growth rate was unimpressive at first, but when I put him on weaneds it cranked up significantly. Then I put him on double-weaneds, and he got fat. I backed him off to an adult every 9-10 days, and he has trimmed back up. :)

That's probably the best looking king I've ever seen!
Thanks. I'm kinda partial to MBKs, myself. And I really like white-sided axanthic brooksis too. :)

He looks cool Deano, did newly-named Callista inspire you to flop Kal out? :grin01:
Thanks, Marty. She did inspire me-- she inspired me to feel guilty about my woefull neglect of this snake. There are only about 45 other woefully neglected snakes in my collection (neglected in terms of photo ops, not husbandry, of course). :(

I gotta admit, I like him better this way. He sure is a strapping young lad!

Thanks Stephanie and Mike. :D I don't really have a problem with the ultra-light lavender, I think it gives him a very clean look. I just preferred the brighter purple. It's the same with my '05 lav-albino FL king: she started out a beautiful, dark purple with thin bands and splotches of fiery orange, and now she's... yellow. She still looks cool, but I preferred her juvie look as well.

And yeah, this guy's in pretty good shape now. You can see his muscles! A few months ago, he was so pudgy I thought he might be ovulating. I've never sexed him, so maybe he was. But his tail looks male to me. :)

Dean, if you keep posting pictures of such beautiful kings on here...someone's gonna mistake you for Mike!

Yet another gorgeous king...need I inform you that I am jealous?

FWIW...I think the striking contrast between the ultra-light lavander and the lemon yellow is incredible. I know I didn't see him in his juvenile colors, but he is one striking snake, at the moment.

Thanks Chris. :) My lack of arm-pelt should distinguish me from Mike in the in-hand shots anyway. :grin01:

I wish I'd saved more room in my collection for kings...

It's been ages since I last saw this handsome young snake! He's looking better then ever too! I like how clean he looks and how brilliant the yellow stands out against his paler lavender color.

When they get pale like that, it means they need a blood transfusion. You need to send him to me immediately to save his life!! What a gorgeous snake!!

I rather like him Dean. I usually dislike albino kings, as the puke yellow colour throws me off, but hes delightful!

I love the under-stated lavender, although I liked his juvie colouration more.... His ventrum is beautiful too...
