Let's See Everyone's Pets!

The intelligence of birds is incredible!! (for those who haven't seen it, check out Caledonian Crows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtmLVP0HvDg)

Anyway- all this talk REALLY makes me miss having a bird in the house! Since I've joined Avian Ave I have been entranced with everyone's gorgeous flock....

-A Zon-less dreamer! :)

My quaker parrot taught my cockatiel to talk. He also learned different whistles and beeps from him too.

I bet that is a hoot to listen to, probably not all the time though. My cockatiel will do something similar, that I'm told he's not supposed to do, that only the parrots are supposed to do. We taught him "Big kiss" where my brother and I would say the words, then my mom would make a big long drawn out smooching sound. If you tell him "Big kiss!" he will do the smooching noise and then we tell him good boy! But he doesn't say any of those words, he knows what his part in the sequence is.

My wife's cockatiel is a spoiled brat. He talks all the time but won't say a word if you are around him. Walk out of the room and he talks away. The only time he talks when you are by his cage is when he is uncovered first thing in the AM he will say "good morning Louie bird". Louie is his name and that's what my wife used to say to him every morning. He also likes to whistle the theme to the Munsters that my son and daughter taught him.

Does your wife's cockatiel hate men? Mine does and everyone else I've talked to says their male cockatiels don't like men. (He was actually my mom's but adopted me as his favorite person for some reason, he is around 17 years old now.)

Here are my parrots.

I love the looks of the pretty Mexican Red Heads/Green Cheek 'Zons. I've yet to meet one that didn't want to eat me, though! How's Ernie's temperament? And how is his talking ability? The only Zons I know well enough to know their talking ability are the 3 "hots"--BFAs, DYHs, and YFs. I've heard other 'zons aren't as chatty at those three species are.

I have always like them so when I had the opportunity to adopt him, I couldn't resist.
He is really friendly. He does bluff but has yet to really bite. So far, Ernie says "Hello, Good Afternoon, Uh-oh". He does imitate an Osprey and Peacock.
