Light Granite

Susan

Go Ahead, Make My Day!
Freshly shed, I couldn't pass up taking Contessa out this past Wednesday before setting her up with her intended mate. As it turned out, she's not quite ready yet so that male is with another female at the moment who is a little more eager to make some babies.

This is the hottest granite I´ve ever seen!
I´m so jealous of the blossoms. It gives a foretaste of spring, because it is snowing here round-the-clock!

She's gorgeous! I must find room on the rack for a granite like that. Did you produce this lovely lady?

Did you produce this lovely lady?

No, I found her on Rob's table (Bayou Reptiles) at Daytona in August '09. She was in blue at the time, so I really didn't know just how gorgeous she was until a little over a week later. She was priced to sell for a young virgin lady and I simply couldn't resist.

She is sweet. I find myself drawn to the grey tones much more than the orange/red tones!

Great looking gal Susan!

Great looking guy Susan!

I think I am going to have to hurt you for placing a curse on me. This snake was labeled female by Rob, was way too large to pop when purchased and I have minimal experience, plus no help whatsoever, in probing, and is one of those "iffy" looking at the vent/tail. I've placed a known male (I popped him myself several times when I purchased him and afterward) with "her" a couple of times since her post-brumation shed. There was jerky bouncing around by both for awhile with the male usually on top, but then I would find them curled together with no mating evidence. I've seen that behavior many times when the female isn't ready yet, but I had another female just have her shed and her intended mate is busy with another female, so just because of your post, I put this snake in with her. The new female was definitely not interested yet in a mate, but I think I witnessed "Contessa" get rid of the hemipenal sperm plugs (or she was trying to poop or musk because of being placed with a strange snake...again). :( This is really messing up a special project pairing if "Contessa" is really "Count", especially since I could have used another granite female with the male I had intended for this granite...had she not already been bred to a different male. There may be some hope, but I will have to sacrifice another special project to keep this one. I have the same gene combo in a reverse pairing. The sacrifice project is even more special, but there may be a problem with the male for that (and other) projects...a prolapsed hemipene. I'm hoping he just got too excited with a reluctant female that pulled away at the right moment and that it will go back down with a little time. I'm now off to research prolapsed hemipenes, just in case. Oh well...nothing ever goes 100% as planned anyway.

HOLY COW...I am so very sorry Susan!!! I have amended my post! I feel like a dumb blonde now. How I ever misread your post is beyond me.

I would never curse anyone with that unfortunate situation. I have seen it happen us here. Purchase a female and come breeding size and age, she is now a he!

Now you've REALLY done it! Messing with a curse and trying to take it back makes it not only continue on it's way, but backlash on the person who called it up in the first place!

ONLY KIDDING! :)

I don't believe in such things (knock on wood) and if she ends up being a male, I can live with that as long as the other male with the prolapsed hemipene gets better quickly as he has 4 females he needs to breed this year and the only replacement is just 45 grams and not quite up to the task.
