Lump developed on My snake

I have had My girl for over 9 years now and about 6 months ago She started getting a lump by or at Her belly. It has grown a lot where it looks like She has eaten a rat. It does not seem to hurt Her. She is eating , shedding and drinking fine , but it is worrying Me. I took Her to a vet and She couldn't help Me at all.. Only said if She doesn't seem like She is in pain don't worry about it.. Well I am worried. She is My baby and part of My family.. Does anyone know what it could be? I want to thank anyone who could help Me out..

No regurges? No weight loss?

The most likely options are either crypto, a tumor, or an abscess. If you can, find another veterinarian that specialises in reptiles.

I agree that you need to go elsewhere and find expert help. It doesn't sound like the vet was very experienced - they wouldn't have left a cat or dog in that state. If they didn't know what it was, then they should have run more checks/tests to find out.

So sorry you're having to go through this. It's terribly worrying.

No weight lose at all. Now Her poo seems different like all liquid and nothing at all formed.. Yes I do agree if She would have been a cat or dog the vet would have done more , but being a snake She didn't seem to care.. Problem is the nearest Reptile vet to Me is about 170 miles each way..

Yeah, could be something ingested (i.e. wood chips) that won't digest.

I had one like that where I massaged the lump a little and luckily it went away.

Definitely get to another vet, they should at least want to biopsy it or something. I have a friend who's had to have surgery on her pet rat for fatty lumps, no vet should dismiss any animal.

sorry about your troubles I would go to another vet sounds like he didn't wanna be bothered or just doesn't know snakes. I had an ultra with a lump on her jaw turned out to be trauma because she would climb on the rim of her tank near the screen lid and eventually fall. She at some point must have impacted something. The vet I took her to gave me a hard time about checking her out the way I thought she should have been, at least till I mentioned I'd be back and very unpleasant if I would loose her because he was Lazy. I got the exam that I was paying for and then some. As a Combat Marine Vet I have no tolerance for people who don't do there job and or do it half A**ed. My ultra healed up in about 2 weeks and I now cut that little lip off tanks so they can get up there.

I hope all goes well your your Baby

Joe

I agree , Guess She figured Pinkie is just a snake. Makes Me so mad when ppl act like they are not like My family. I love each and everyone.

Poor lass - no wonder you're concerned. Good luck finding a vet who cares - there *are* good ones out there.

If it helps, tumours tend to feel harder and not move much when felt. If the lump soft and squishy this makes cancer a less likely outcome. Corns can develop fat lumps which feel soft and squisy and they can be very pronounced. However this isn't usually the place on the body where they occur.

Sending good wishes your way.

I'm hoping Your right about the cancer.. Yes it feeling like it's nothing but fluid. I'll have to see when I can get Her in for at least maybe a x-ray...

I guess since she is eating, there is nothing stuck in her stomach... I would not expect her to eat if there was.. but at the other hand, I have never seen a lump like this before either. Can't be comfortbale to say the least. Weird how there are 4 bulges..maybe something is wrong with her belly muscles? Sorry can't help speculating but really, it could be anything. Hopefully you'll find a vet who at least examines her. It's not like a snake totally doesn't 'work' like other animals.... some basic stuff should be covered by any vet.
