Man to be eaten alive by anaconda for Discovery channel...

Anyone else praying the anaconda decides to go on a feeding strike on camera, making the guy look like an idiot? I don't see any way that this wouldn't hurt the poor snake.

Remember when the Discovery Channel was higher caliber programming than the freak show at a 19th century traveling circus?

Poor anaconda. What a stupid publicity stunt just for the shock value. The snake will have to be cut open, Nanci. I'm pretty sure that's the only way out? And if something should go wrong or the snake turns out to be stronger than they thought and crushes the guy through the snake proof suit?
Dumbest idea ever!

Exactly my thoughts!

I don't think it will happen. Possibly a hoax or a publicity stunt that will never actually occur? I don't think that such an outfit exists- and even if it did you'd have to answer not only to a very vocal animal rights group, but also to a much more scientific animal welfare population. Not sure who would actually tune in to watch this either. Nothing to be gained, everything to be lost. Although from what's on these days that might be Discovery Channel's new motto.

I think it's a publicity stunt (sort of) to get viewers. I do think they'll go through with the "attempt", but I can't see the snake actually eating this man in his "snake proof suit". The attempt will be just for show, while they talk about the snake and how big it is and how it kills its prey and eats its prey etc...

I'd be absolutely PO'd if it actually were to happen, which would ultimately lead to either cutting open the snake or a forced "regurge", neither a good option for the snake.

Still, just putting the stress they will be while messing with the snake in their so-called "attempt" is enough to enrage me.

Not to mention the "snakes as man-eaters" thing. Yeah, a full-grown Green Anaconda is a big snake that can eat a 200 lb animal-I get that. But I spend a good time of my life, and my 9 yr old spends more of hers, trying to convince people that our local snakes are good neighbors and shouldn't be killed. We don't need to have people saying "But snakes EAT people! They said so on the Discovery channel!!"

That is so stupid. The world will not have learned anything and some poor snake will probably have to be cut open. Most snake injuries probably happen when somebody with little experience and even less brain function decides it would be fun to go bother a 200lb snake in the wild. But even then the snake mist likely will not eat a human..

My coworker told me about this yesterday and I was fuming all afternoon...I couldn't find the proper words to how pissed off I was about this...I signed the petition also...

From looking at the teaser clip on Yahoo today it appears this has already been filmed. Whatever happened to the snake and the not so smart guy looks to already be done.

I read another article about how there have been concerns about the snake's well being, and he said to read his books and that if we did that "we would understand that he would never do anything to hurt an animal!". I guess they are tying him to a rope, so I assume they're gonna pull him out?

I don't see how it can't be hurtful to the animal. How are they gonna measure it's pain??

The whole thing is ridiculous.

The media at it's finest.......

Seriously, anacondas are constrictors. That suit isn't going to mean a thing if the guy gets wrapped up. And suppose the guy is swallowed, I presume head first. How long can he hold is breath? Or is he going to have some sort of breathing apparatus attached to that suit.

Lord I'm glad I don't watch TV. This is proof positive that this sort of garbage causes severe necrosis of the brain. No danged wonder the world is as screwed up as it is.

I feel sure this is about as real as Copperfield making the statue of Liberty disappear. Even a small man with a scuba tank isn't going to be easily swallowed, not to mention the constricting aspect. And he could only come out via regurge or cutting the animal open, neither of which I'd expect Discovery to think would go over without outrage. Although with the success Animal Planet had with the sensationalism and animal taunting of the Crocodile Hunter, there is little incentive to avoid that sort of thing...

Yea it's already been filmed, and when asked about it Discovery channel was very VERY vague about how much of him was actually swallowed, and he said himself via Twitter that he'd never hurt an animal. How you're supposed to be eaten by a snake and live without hurting the snake..... is yet to be seen.
