Market Research on rodent prices

wilomn

No One of Consequence
I'm curious what people are actually paying for feeders. Live or frozen, mice or rats.

I'm curious because I have begun to breed a fair number of rodents and would like to know what my fellow breeders are charging. So, if you wouldn't mind letting me know, and a pm is fine too, I'd really appreciate it.

And if anyone knows a reliable source in Florida, please let me know...

Gourmet Rodents- never in stock
Rodents on the Road- barely in stock
South Florida Rodents- in stock, but I've had issues, but at least they have mice...

We raise a few of our own rodent colonies (mice, rats, & ASFs) for problem feeders. We have bulk ordered from South Florida Rodents (we have had no issues). We also get them from Ryan Beatty who is a member on the forum - he has GREAT prices and is a GREAT guy to work with - at shows NO ONE can beat his prices. You might want to pm him to see what he is currently charging.

Remember, pricing also depends on the client, amount purchased (is it one or multiple rodents/bulk order?), and the area to which you are marketing. Typically CA is going to be different than what we may charge in AL (different client base).

my rodent selling business never took off, and I wasn't even charging much, only a buffalo head nickel per any size rodent.

I get mine locally for..
.40 pink, .50 fuzz, .60 hopper, .70 weaned, .80 adult, and .90 jumbo.

and discount for large orders and long term buyer.

Mike's mouse farm in St Augustine Florida. You can google him. I don't think he ships the mice though. I know he delivers to Jacksonville. You can also google Mike's corn snakes and then click the mouse link.

Big Cheese is who I order from. Mice always very clean, they are never out of stock of what I need, and they ship box sizes depending on the size of your order, to keep shipping costs as low as possible.

Layne Labs is where I have been buying most of mine. It's in CA so I don't think the shippng to East Coast would be cheap. But they have nice clean fresh looking rodents and while they do require a little time between ordering and shipping they always seem to have what I need.
I did recently purchase from Rodent pro because they had a big sale on "dark fuzzies" and "dark hoppers". While the prices were decent, the sizes on fuzzies and hoppers were rather similar. I have to sift through the bag of fuzzies to find ones small enough that I would actually consider them fuzzies.

Thanks a lot! St. Augustine isn't a bad drive for me.

I was just at the Hamburg, PA show this weekend. This is what I recall as an average price based off several different vendors:
pinks: $.50
fuzzies: $.55
adults: $.70 or more

Pinks around the neck of the woods have sky rocketed. At expos I pay as much as 0.55 or 0.60 cents SOMETIMES.

i breed my own feeders and sell the ones i don't need to pay for food and bedding for them i also breed fancy mice i get anywhere from $2 to $10 for them and as others have said depends on the client and what they are getting some only need 2 or 3 a week and are happy to pay a buck each for them because pet shops in our area ask way too much for feeders people also like that i use a good quality rodent feed

I so wish there was someplace local that I could pick up my frozen feeders.

My last order a couple of months ago was a little over $1k. I don't mind so much paying for the actual product, but shipping alone cost $220! :eek1:

I just placed an order with Rodent Pro. I ordered 150 large adults and the cost per m ouse was $1.00. This is my third order from them and have been happy with the product.
