Might there be a Candy Cane Tessera in there???????? I have no idea, just a guess :)

Very good guess Daniel !!!

As we all know, alot of times we get unknown surprise genes that show up in our projects and I was really hoping for the Amel gene to be carried by this girl, which was unknown by both myself and the producer........well, as far as I know she didn't know because I wasn't told the she could be poss. het Amel at the time of purchase.

Alot of you may not know, but I'm a egg cutter. Always have been an always will be. I started cutting eggs years ago when a friend of mine showed me some eggs in his clutches that had visible scratches on the top of the egg, which was evident of the baby snake in the egg starting to cut it's way out. Unfortunatly, apparently the egg tooth had broken off before the snakes could cut through the shell. When he cut the eggs open, he found drowned babys, so ever since then I have always cut my eggs once I found the first pipper in the clutch.

ANYWAY, once I saw the first pipper in this clutch, I started cutting and the very first egg I cut contained a CANDYCANE !! (pic. 1)

As I went through them I came across a CANDYCANE TESSERA !! (pics. 2 & 3)
WOO HOO !!!

There are actually a couple of them. This sure does make up for missing out on the Topaz Tessera in the previous clutch.
I can't wait for them to all emerge from their mini pods !!!

Gorgeous -- congrats! The veins are fascinating, too. So neat to see this, and looking forward to more.

It will be interesting to see how white the candy cane tesseras stay as they mature, or how many generations of selective breeding it takes to keep them white into adulthood. Nanci's "Big Moose" is the whitest I've seen, but it also has the het Cinder influence.

To be honest, I think these are going to be pretty white and hold it.
As you can see, the Candeycane sire is white and is from Carol Huddleston's Miami lines.

I find her lines to be very strong, meaning that when you breed one of her Miami corns into a non-Miami corn, the offspring tend to still exibit a Miami coloration.
Here is a for instance.

Pic. 1) Is a breeding I did to start a Miami/Candycane Bloodred project using a Mimai for Carol's line.

Pic. 2) Is the adult F1 holdback pair from the above breeding. As you can see they are not textbook Miami coloration, but not far from it.

Also, when I breed any of her line into another F1 generation Miami, they come out amazing. You can see some of them on my web site from this year.
I think the ones in the Tessera clutch as going to be textbook Miami & Candcane color that will stay.

my fingers are crossed for a female tessera. Those should definitely be some nice looking critters.

Nanci's "Big Moose" is the whitest I've seen, but it also has the het Cinder influence.
His mother is the granddaughter of clutchmates son and daughter of a daughter of the original cinder-producing Upper Keys female. FWIW. She's the super-pale peppermint.

That's good to hear!

Cool! I really like Big Moose, I'm just curious how he will compare to a Candy Cane Tessera with no Het Cinder influence.

OMG!! Talk about surprise! Congrats!!

No, I had no idea she had any hets!! Wait, I should say that I found out her half brother (Alabama Tessera out of the same sire she is from) did end up proving to be het stripe last year, so she is poss het Stripe. (I did not know about that either).

I will have to pair her brother with an Amel next year to see if he is het Amel as well.

The dam to your female had no history what-so-ever. I didn't know who produced her or anything.
The sire (Taz) belonged to Tara, who got him as a baby from Don S.

While I am glad you got some fun Amel stuff out of this clutch, I'm most interested in seeing the 2nd generation Miami Tessera babies!!

Miami Tessera's are my most favorite, and I was very happy with the 1st generation babies, I can only imagine how fabulous the 2nd generation will be!

I'm still on egg watch with min, but they've been averaging 80 degrees, so I expected them to go a little longer. I have had "67 days" in my head, which is tomorrow, so we will see if my guess is correct.
What temp were yours incubated at?

Thanks Heather !!

I didn't think you knew she was. I figured if you did, you would have mentioned something.
I've been telling a few friends that I REALLY hope she is unknowingly carrying the Amel gene seeing I bred her to my Candycane.
Well, low and behold....BINGO !!!
So, she is poss het Stripe too, that's great. I'm gonna have to check her eventually.

I incubate around 82 degrees.

Yes, I would have told you if I knew. What a happy surprise!

Knowing this now changes some of my future pairing plans, to see what hidden genes mine might have. I have 1.1 Miami Tessera's to test, from the same clutch as your girl, I will be for sure testing out Amel, and it will be fun to see what else might be there.
